I just started wakeboarding a few weeks ago. Have been out about 3 or 4 weekends now. This past weekend i was attempting a HS 180. I can land it but cant stay up. Well i went down head first, no biggy done it lots so far LOL. but some how the board came over or around my back and cracked me in the side of the head. I had to go to the ER and get 5 stitches. Once the stitches are out I'm getting back on the board but just wondering if this is a common accedent or just a fluke thing.

I have seen it with younger kids like under 14 years, thats assuming the board hit your head without your feet coming out of the bindings. If the feet come out who knows what will get hit, torn or messed up.

I wear a helmut but I wear one that has ear flaps so when I face plant on the side of my head I do not bust my ear drum, not too worried about the board hitting my head, I am pretty well locked in with my feet to the board, not much chance of them coming loose. But the helmut has definitely saved me from a few majow headaches from head slappage on the water.

Do what you want, I do not care how I look, just want to come out alive, lol.

My feet stayed in the bindings so I still have no idea how the board hit me in the head. I had to have folded up just perfect for it to happen. Any recommendations on helmets? I think the wife would feel more comfortable if I wore one Very Happy

Either Bern or Protec, I can't remember what I have. Just remember to get one for wakeboarding that will have removable ear flaps, a busted ear drum is extremely painful and will most likely take you out of wakeboarding for the remaining season.
