|
|
Hey guys, I'm fairly new to this site and couldn't find any DIYs on board picking so I figured I would ask here. My name is Ivan, I'm 21 and got into wakeboarding 3 years ago. I've gone a few times each summer but this time really want to pick it up.
I weigh only 135 pounds so I know I need a shorter board (132cm?). I want to have a lot of pop off the wakes since my boat's wakes are low, and as well be able to maneuver it very easily. Tricks is what I aim for, but doesn't appear very easy with the board I have. Also, my bindings suck because everything about the board is beginner... I'm looking to spend 260 for a board and boots, maybe a little more if I have to. Can you guys help me out? Thanks

Welcome to the site! If your budget is $260 i would look out for some 2008 gear as that will all be selling cheap now that the 2009 gear is out. I would also watch www.boardersbestbuy.com as they have amazing deals on there!
Also what board do you have now? And what sort of "tricks" can't you do with your board that you have now? |

I can't really do any lol. The board is very heavy, and it seems no matter how I attack the wake I just can't get any air, even with an 8 foot pylon. The fins are huge so it has more grip than I want, and it's too long for me. It's a Jeremy Kovak Iconn board, i think this is the exact one

I don't mind spending a bit over 260 if it's worth the extra $, I just really need help at picking a good board because i'm still beginner i think. _________________ 2008 LF witness board

imshirazy, welcome to wakeboarder.com.
If you have a pro shop near you, then you should try to demo some boards and find one that you like.
If you don't have a pro shop near you (like most of us don't) then you can find plenty of good deals online. You'll just have to make a decision on a setup without actually riding it first.
Are you located in the US? If so, there are plenty of online sites that have closeout gear and cheap shipping. Check these out before you make a decision.
www.boardstop.com (from the people who brought you wakeboarder.com )
www.buywake.com
www.wakeside.com
www.the-house.com
www.evogear.com
www.closeoutdude.com
and, as always, www.ebay.com
If nothing else, at least you can get a good idea of sizes and models. At your weight, you probably want something in the 132-136 range, give or take a CM or two. Also, binding selection is a priority. Make sure you find a good quality set of bindings that fit properly. If your bindings don't fit right then it doesn't matter what board you're riding.
Hope this helps. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

Yeah this helps somewhat
I have a few more questions then, does it matter if i get rounded edges or double tipped i think it's called?
I basically want a board that can pop a lot and can be very easily maneuverable
everyone seems to say hyperlite is good
and unfortunately i don't have a shop nearby :/
edit: two more things, i'm a size 10 for shoe, is a size 8 - 9 binding too small?
and how do i change my avatar lol
double edit: How is this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=260411054436#ebayphotohosting
and I like the one you linked too, is there a noticeable diff between the two?
sorry for all the nub posts |

| Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but he could go with a little bigger board size. I have a 08 Tribute with 07 3ds bindings, feels great. I can carve around pretty nice and it has great pop. It comes in 132 132 and 140 (i think) I'm 5' 3", 115 lbs and I ride the 132. |
