I have solid w2w jumps on both HS and TS and can w2f when I want to. FS 180s both HS and TS w2w are solid and now I want to try either tantrums or FS 360s.
Tantrum- I can do backflips 100% on a trampoline without bouncing. I'm just freaked out as heck and I don't think My board will even come off the wake.
360- I almost landed one last year but i haven't tried one FOREVER. We got a new boat and I can now get about 8 feet high.
Which one do you think I should be able to LAND next?
BTW, I can do raleys on a trampoline and they're pretty beautiful. _________________ Grow some. |

| tantrums you can get away with bad technique so the likelyhood of your board not even leaving is slim, tantrums and raleys are relative in difficulty but raleys are all mental. I would learn the fs 360 both hs and ts then tantrum. If your going to try a raley, doing them off the wakeskate will save you a few hard falls. |

I was in a similar - ish spot a while ago, this is how my progression went at that stage.
HS/TS w2w FS 180's
HS FS 360
HS backroll
backrolls are a really easy invert, in my opinion the easiest once you get the edging right. i'd say go for that or the three. the three came pretty easy for me, but the one thing i had to keep telling myself was not to start spinning to early, wait until you've completely released from the wake |

I would say you're not ready for anything new until you can reach 9 or 10 feet. That is what pretty much all of us on here are pulling. _________________

I dont know. I started to try new tricks at 8.5 and things seemed to go ok for me.
Obviously if you were wedgeless and could go 7-7.5 that would be acceptable too.
In all seriousness... just try a bunch of different stuff, you never know what you'll get close to until you try it. I don't really understand the mindset that people have where they think they can only try one new trick at a time. Try some 3's, try some rolls, try some tantrums and see how close you can get on any of them.
Easiest invert I ever learned was a scarecrow /shrug |

Well then you should be riding a hell of a lot better than this schmuck.

The thing is, I really have no clue how high I'm actually getting, just a general guesstimate from my dad who can only see me out of his mirror. I'd honestly say the range could be from 7-9 feet.
I'm riding a short line (55 ft) I really want to up it to around 60-65ish. Would that give me more height? _________________ Grow some. |

jryoung, that just rewrote half of what I thought I knew. I'm never going to even think about mentioning wake size EVER again. That video was by far the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

Wakeboarder3780, that was before Corey Kraut died from not wearing a life vest. If you look at a lot of early videos, you'll see a lot of that sort of thing.
Unfortunately people are slipping back into not wearing them again, it's really a bone of contention with me actually. I wish the mags would be more strict on the no vest no shot run policy, or do we have to wait and loose another one of our sport's legends?
jctwake, most professional wakeboarders probably don't hit 9 ft on a normal wake jump and that's behind a fully loaded boat. I probably don't even hit that on a double up. As far as where to go next, I'd work on switch and I'd also start learning backside 180's, they're probably one of my favorite tricks honestly. _________________ wakeboards

Sorry guys, Like I said I really have no idea how high I get. My parents just probably tell me that to make me feel good. Can you guys tell me an average height that you guys achieve? _________________ Grow some. |

jctwake, maybe they're talking about how high your head is up in the air. This would make more sense.
I'd say most everyone on this board can pull at least 6 inches on a w2w jump. _________________

jctwake, get a camera. You can tell how high you are in comparison to the horizon and wake.
I would work on both. You could even throw the backroll in there also. I learned the 3 first, but the tantrum and backroll are more consistent for me now. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

I've looked at TONS of backroll clips, but they never really look like the same trick. I really don't know what the rotation is like. Is it like a cartwheel or a backwards front flip? _________________ Grow some. |

jctwake, i usually get around 4 or 5 feet,
and i feel the same way about the backroll, which is why i've tried 360's, tantrums, and toeside backrolls.. the rotations you're talking about are two different tricks, the first cartwheel like is a regular backroll where the bakwards front flip is the mexican roll.
the reason for the two is because the mexican roll is good for roll to blinds where you throw the 180 early, and for learning kgb's.
but the cartwheel rotation is pretty easy to initiate, so i've heard. i'll definitely be trying some this summer _________________ Wake Forest University |

It is why I keep posting it whenever it is relevant, I've been wakeboarding for a long long time (relative to the life of the sport) and it cracks me up when kids come in and say they can't get air because of their boat, board, rope, or tower. All the modern tech will most certaintly help, but the core of wakeboarding is edging, full stop. _________________
