Hey all, I've been lurking here for a long time, but just recently registered. I've been riding for years and years, but only once or twice a year until just last year, when I finally got a boat for myself. I'm pretty comfortable on the board, and I can stick some W2W air, but I'm not a big trick guy, yet. The point here is that I'm looking for a new board. I want one that will not hold me back, which I think is part of my problem. I have a 3-4 year old CWB that I think is an entry level board, and an even older HO sports Soul 5 board. Both are 140 length boards
I would like a board that will really make me feel in control, but mainly one that won't feel squirmy on landings. I'm a big guy, 6'3" and 250lbs, so I definitely put some pressure down when I land. I'd also like something that will some out of the water cleanly. Am I asking for too much out of a board? I'm ready to dump some cash here, and I'm ready to move up a level. I've been searching and reading a lot, but what I'd really like to hear is some personal experience, maybe from bigger guys and what boards/shapes they've really succeeded with.
I've read good things about the Ronix Ibex (I'm leaning towards this one) and of course many of the Hyperlite and Liquid force boards, but I'd really like some specific feedback from any of you bigger guys. Thanks in advance! |

I'm a pretty big guy, 6' 235lbs. I ride a 141 HL premier love it. I thought I might have some problems since my board is for advanced riders, but no problems. At your size I would suggest something in the 143-145 size range. Look around at the manufacturers websites, then once you narrow down your choices, look up some reviews to see if that is what you are after. _________________

I'm 6'4 230 and i'm on a Ronix Covin (143 I think). I've been on a premier (141) and an era (142 I think) in the past and so far the Covin has been my favorite.
Its a fast board which i think is important with a bigger/heavier dude.
A few copanies have some bigger high end boards. The Marek (146) is one i'd like to try but the price is a bit excessive. |

Thanks guys. I've looked at the Ronix Covin, is it a 3 stage rocker, or a continuous? I'll have to do some more research on the both those boards, I haven't seen the Lyman before. Keep the reviews coming!
Has anyone used a Slingshot board before? |

Another thing you might want to do is sign up for Murray's pay it forward 145 board. I'm on the central list for the 145 and it's not very long. Chance to demo a pro board for just the cost of shipping, pretty sweet deal. http://www.wakeboarder.com/payitforward/ _________________

From the info I got, a rep should be contacting you a few weeks before the board gets there with all the info. E.T.A. who to send it on to ect. _________________

OK, so I think I've made up my mind. After doing a bunch of reading, and looking at reviews till my head spins, I have found a board that a lot of guys seem to really like. It's the Liquid Force Witness 144, and Evogear has some 2008 models for dirrrrt cheap. They say it's basically the same design as the Lyman, with a little more abrupt pop, which I could use, given my stature. I'm still interested in riding the Murray, and it sucks being out here in the sticks where there's no chance at all of seeing any board before I buy. such is life. Now... on to finding some boots. |
