Has anyone purchased or built an ice chest sound system? I saw a few of these at the beach over memorial day wknd and they absolutely POUND! I have an iPod HiFi that I have used for Falcons tailgates and pool parties for the last several years but now I think I'm going to build (or purchase) one of these because the sound quality is so impressive. The one I got the best look at had 4 6x9's, a 10" sub, a head unit, amp and car battery inside the cooler. Any advice?
This is the only premade brand I've been able to find in my quick google search. www.boomcooler.com

| Wouldn't the car battery take up too much space normally reserved for beer? It seems like that thing would be way too heavy to lift in and out of a car. Other than that, seems pretty cool. |

| It doesn't function as a cooler...just a self contained stereo. |

My iPod HiFi screams...or at least I thought it did until we got it out on the beach and there was the background noise from wind, waves and hundreds of people partying. We always have 50+ people at our tailgates and I'm in charge of music, so I've been planning on upgrading for next season, because it's loud as hell until about 11am, but once there are a lot of people at our tailgate and other tailgates going on around us the background noise starts to drown out the radio. Up until I saw the cooler radios I was planing on getting PA style speakers on stands, but the cooler radio would be so much cheaper to build and it's super loud. Plus my buddy is having a huge pool party in a couple weeks and since he's not getting a DJ we need to a better solution for tunes. |
