help with cut

when im behind my crappy boat (76 glastron 16', 80 hp merc, 13x15" alum prop, no speedo/tach, homebuilt tower, 3 adults, 2 kids) its extremely dificult to cut. it feels like the board wants to wash out all the time. (we forgot to get some video last weekend, but i will try to get some this weekend) if i slow the boat down any, it comes off of plane. is the board just to big for me? im 185, and its a cwb absolute 141, bindings are all the way back, and im riding at 55'. it just feels extremely unstable, is the boat going to fast? i dont remember it being like this last summer before i put the tower on. just lookin for some ideas please.

What do you mean by the bindings are "all the way back" ? When I first started riding a modern WB with twin tips, I had the bindings shifted towards the back of the board IE: back binding as far out as it would go, and front a couple notches in. Yeah, it sucked, and is actually what got me to start lurking here lol

How fast are you going?

The board isn't too big, I have an old 147cm that I use sometimes and I only weigh 165lbs.

Is the boat slowing down because you are cutting? The driver is probably going to have to give a little more throttle to stop the boat from decelerating when you cut hard.

my bindings are all the way to the back of the board, and it seems when the boat is up on plain, its hard to really dig the edge into the water, and the board washes out when i try to fight it, but if the boat slows down a little, its alot easier to get the edge to cut. and, taitrt, im not sure how fast im going, i would say around 20, i dont have a speedo, hence "crappy boat" if i slow it down any, the boat comes off of plane and slows down a ton. its really finicky. i know that a better boat would do the trick, the problem is boats in my area are extremely over priced. (6900 for an 86 tara 20', 5800 for an 84 fourwinns 18' both with the 4.3) ive contemplated putting a "whale tail" on, and im told not to drop the pitch below what i have (15). but the bottom line is i have to really fight the board to get the edge to dig in, and im tired of it washing out and catching my ts edge.

Your bindings should be even from front to back, having them shifted to the back makes it hard to hold a proper edge. Also it will really screw you up when you start riding switch. Look for some of the threads on how to set up bindings, http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=81925 there is one, if you look there are lots more. The whale tail will help keep your plane, also you might want to look around for a 5 blade prop, spendy, but from what I hear makes a world of difference. Is your boat an open bow? If so have the people with you sit up there.

i wish it was an open bow. but for the size, it throws a mean little below knee high size wake at 50' ive heard that if i keep my pitch the same, and add blades, it will hurt the performance cause of the surface area of the prop. i think that for this weekend, i will center the bindings and try it.

Like JeffreyCH said, you are too far back and probably riding on the tail of the board that will make the board ride slower, need to ride in middle of board and use the edge on the entire board, this will speed things up for sure and keep you riding on top of the water.
