|
|
So the wife's been asking for an SUV to cart around the baby and all of the stuff associated with the baby. She's currently got an '04 325i, which we've had since '04, and which has run like a champ for the past 5 years. I found a one owner '06 Lexus GX 470 with around 50k miles on it in Nashville that I think I'm going to go pick up on Friday for her. Now, my mother-in-law has had three GX's over the past few years and loves them. I've only ridden in the in-law's GX a few times, and I liked it ok.
Do any of you have any experience with these cars? Any major issues I need to be aware of? I'm considering purchasing an extended warranty, and I'm curious if it's worth it.

02lightning, don't have any experience with that specific Lexus, but my family has owned a few Lexuses and they all been really solid cars. Both of them were 4 year leases and they never had one problem, but I have one question. WHERE IS THE HITCH!?! Although something gives me a feeling you already have a sick truck to go with that sick boat you have *very jealous*. I say get it for her. I'm sure she will "reward" you nicely for it Japanese cars just hold up better and are made better. I really don't think you can go wrong with it and that wood grain is pretty purty.

Although on a side note, she may ask you why you bought her a used car when you bought an $80k boat hahahahahaha But that answer is also simple. It's because you want to get a new boat again.

Holy stuff! I have something that 02L doesn't yet!!!!!!!!!
I like it. Getting 18 mpg avg. clublexus.com is prob the best forum for these. #1 mod = vais tech ipod integration. Allows full functionality of ipods through the the nav & steering wheel controls.

My co worker has one and loves it. What he recently did sums it up perfectly I think
He had the Lexus gx470(05 or 06) can't remember which year and an 06 BMW 540i.
He sold the GX 470 to a friend of his and bought new one and traded the BMW into the dealer and bought another Lexus. He said the BMW was a piece of junk and he could never in good conscience sell that car to someone he knew. The Lexus on the other hand was bullet proof and he had no problems selling it to a friend.
When he traded his 540 in he bought a LS 460l AWD, said he would never buy another BMW again. I've ridden in the GX and they are very nice...
Side note Muck... You were asking about the Q5 a couple of months ago. My buddy that sits next to me just bought one and he got the 6 cylinder and said it's really nice. They were looking at the either the Volvo or the Audi. Audi won that battle.

| it is the same vehicle as the 4runner, which would probably be easier to find info on.

Wouldn't that be similar to a Sequoia instead of the 4Runner?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's built on a Sequoia frame.

It's actually the 4Runner. But the frame is where the similarities stop. The LX450/470 is on the Sequoia platform.

same drive train also. body and trim is different, but other than that it is just slight tweaks to the suspension and other components. You are paying for the interior and name with the Lexus.

matt1808, There are way more differences than you may think. & if you get them as similarly equipped as possible, there isn't a huge difference in price.

| It's the Lexus version of the Toyota Prado which is probably considered a better vehicle than the 4Runner by many.

4runner = gx470 = prado = hilux surf = ...
GM and Ford aren't the only ones that can sell half a dozen versions of the same vehicle

| Brent87LT1, bottom line is they all use the same mule, so any problems outside of that likely won't be significant.
