A little background... I weigh 140-145lbs. I ride cable. I would say I'm a beginner but I can do kickers, surface 180s and 360s, air 180s, tabletop spins etc. I have yet to try inverts and I still need to work on my air 360s.

Okay here's where I need your help... I'm currently in the market for a new board. I used to own an OMEGA 139 but I got tired of people telling me my board was too big for me so I decided to sell it and buy a new one. I'm considering buying a 132, 133 or 134. Here are my options so far:

1) 2008 Hyperlite Era 132 with Vario bindings
2) 2007 Liquid Force Shane 132 (don't know which bindings to buy yet)
3) 2007 Liquid Force Watson 134 (don't know which bindings to buy yet)
4) 2009 Liquid Force PS3 with Domain bindings
5) 2009 Hyperlite State 135 with Vario bindings
6) 2009 Hyperlite Motive 134 with Vario bindings

Is it important that I buy a newer model? Are 2009 models ALWAYS better than older models? Which would you choose If you were in my position?

Thanks in advance, guys!

look into a ronix one, awesome board. no 09 is not always better but it's not always worse either. in some cases certain shapes are better than others, get out there and demo

Ill go for a Watson LF. But stay away from the Hyperlite State, you really dont want a board like that.

The boards you listed are actually the same shape for 09 so really you are just looking at a graphics change. The only board I am not sure about is the ERA but I think it is the same also.

The Vario bindings are most entry level bindings you can get from Hyperlite.

Try and find a package deal and you will get a better price break on the board and bindings but I would stay away from the entry level vario bindings. They do not have as much support and comfort as other bindings in the Hyperlite line.

Not only a graphic change, the difference between 07 or 09 = $$$$

Thanks for the inputs, guys! At least I now know that manufacturers don't always upgrade the board construction yearly, but sometimes they just change the graphics. I was just worried that people would look at my setup and tell me "hey, why are you still using an 07 board? It's already 2009. Where have you been the last two years?" hehehe

Alright, I'm probably staying away from the State and the Elephant Buddha Wink as well as the Vario bindings. People are telling me to invest more on a good pair of bindings than the board anyway.

What about the 07 Shane and 09 PS3? I only found one review on the Shane and none on the PS3.

Thanks for the inputs guys! I went for the Shane 132 and Shane CT Limited (both 2007). I hope I made the right choice. Very Happy

Hey man, all that matters is that you have fun with it! (as quite a few people told me). You are going to be on the water, with your own board no less, having a kick ass time! Minus the inaugural faceplant with the new board!
