I once towed my family's 11 month old SAN over to the lake to get the season started early. It was struck by a loose trailer coming the other direction...

Patience is sometimes key.

yeah actually had a bad week, aside from my slingshot showing up with no fins, I had 40 hrs of work with 12 credit hours of school, was getting the foundation dug out on my room so I was sleeping on an air mattress in the parents living room since last sunday, then on thursday they broke a grout line and all the water they were mixing in the concrete flooded my room and my office. All the floor that I layed last year had to be ripped up and most of my clothes got soaked. So it's been 7 days on the air mattress and all my wordly possessions are in clothes baskets and layed out on the pool table and my futon.

But I did get my first session on Sat with my new rope, a new slingy, and an insanity pylon. So I guess it's not that bad

Sorry to hear that topher! Went out for the god knows what number of trips to the lake today, well actually had my second camping trip to the lake. Slept in the back seat of my duramax, gave my brother and his cougar the SAN to "sleep" in, had frozen burgers, 6 month old hot dogs from the scwann man i found in the freezer, a bunch of stale chips, a keg of coors light, countless bottles of bombay, jose black medallion, and a few 12 packs of new castle. Rode friday, saturday and today! Nothing better than gettin your priorities straight and hanging out with your best friends and some ladies. Makin friends with all the rangers, sharing beer with them while they show us their hybrid chevy pick ups and watchin my brother pound sakki(sp?) at the local chinese buffet. I like to call summer the season of nights I'll never remember with friends I'll never forget!

I hope it was the extended box set?

Seriously, my son wanted to watch it, so over a week's time we watched all 3 extended movies. He loved it.

Not to add insult to injury buuttt.... it is literally 100 degrees in our beloved Central California!! Your lake, Nacimiento is a little low but the water is trunkable and glassy (at least it was on Friday and Saturday when I was riding it)!!

Sorry young Jedi, stay in school, make lots of money, live somewhere warm, live the dream!!

yep, i did indeed. had a wedding in houston. the place god tried to drown this friday and saturday. i wrote this up on sunday night:

my date had to get her explorer out of the airport parking lot before we could leave for houston. $160 to get it out. she went to la last week and stayed a couple of extra days. @$20/day. (her $$, not mine)

braincramped and kept heading down 71 instead of 183. this f*cked my plan to eat ribs and sausage at city market.

fought through a HELL of a storm all the way down 71. leaning forward and squinting through the brutal downpour, keeping the truck from hydroplaning, keeping it stable through 8-12" at speed. not quite white knuckle, but fairly tense.

got to i10 and the weather let up quite a bit. settled for mikeskas on the fly and put down a sliced beef sammich, 2 ribs and some coleslaw. solid c+. decent, but i wouldn't ever recommend it. kind of a good thing we missed luling and had some extra time by now, because we were about to need it.

bbq eaten, hands cleaned, sun is trying to come out and at 230/300ish on friday, i10 is pretty light, so we are ahead of schedule (i need to be at the wedding rehearsal by 530). then BOOM!! the LOUDEST f*cking BANG! and the entire front of the explorer EXPLODES. i shlt you not - sparks and flames shooting out EVERYWHERE - smoke coming into the cab under the glove box. like someone threw a molotov cocktail that hit right under the front of the hood.

i thought we ran over something in the road, but she saw it - we had been struck by lighting. hand of god trying to test my ass! it had come straight down into the antenna, which was now glowing red, missing the top 1/3, and curled over like a cartoon. the car immediately went dead w/ no power steering at all. i was able to get us off to the side where we came down from hyperventilating. after we called our friends in houston and convinced them we weren't bullshitting to be funny and jacking w/ the bride, we tried to start it and it fired right up.

still a bit freaked out and driving on half the instruments - no window power, radio, speedometer, windshield wipers (right as the speed slowed and rain picked up), we continued east. about 20 or so minutes later, a guy comes up on our side honking and pointing at our tires. sure enough left rear is about FLAT. we limp to a gas station and it's on the rim. i pump in a bunch of air to see what's going on w/ the leakage and damned it there isn't a huge tear right down the middle - the spot where the lightning left the car, is our assumption. another gas station to air up, several u-turns and a hard as hell to find discount tire, $80 (we split it) and about 40 min lost, we were on out way.

we made the rehearsal, i did a damned fine job w/ my best man speech at the reception, i danced a lot, and we had an all around good time all weekend, post lightning strike. coincidentally, as i stepped onto the altar (?) to give give up the rings for the blessing, a HUGE thundercrack hit, sounding like it was directly above us. everyone got a good crack up out of that, given i'm the black sheep friend. Twisted Evil

got up this morning, found an autozone while braving all the 1 way streets in midtown, scored a used battery for $35, fixed my date's explorer enough for us to get home today. i'm hoping it's only a couple of fuses to get her 100%, but it wouldn't surprise me if she had a bunch of stuff that never works again. ate at denny's on the way home and it was pretty damn good.

jt09, I had a girlfriend once that had the exact thing happen to her and her mom when they were going down the road. She said when it popped she could see it go through by the window down the metal strip. It fried a lot of stuff in their car.

And I can beat that Very Happy

I had surgery monday the 13th, a little over a week ago. I had a deviated septum, my sinuses were trashed and a small spot of basil cell cancer on my nose. If it wasn't for the cancer I would be able to start the season in a little over a month from now which would be about the time you can trunk it all day here. Since the cancer was a lot deeper than my doctor had thought he had to pull tissue out from under my eye and cheek to reconstruct my face, similar to a face lift but worse. Now if I get in the sun I could tan part of it and the tan would never go away. I am only going to have a small scar that in time will go away but I can't get in the sun for a long time possibly ending this season before it starts. He told me he would know more when it healed. My doctor said as of now I don't need any sun, ever. I'll be 33 Thursday and I just had skin cancer removed which for my age is very rare especially basil cell. I'm lucky though, they got all the cancer and I will recover so I'm counting my blessings even if I miss this entire year. I'm hoping I will at least be able to come up with something to cover that area so I can ride. I will also have to wear the highest sun block out there all the time if I do. I don't care if I look funny if I get to get back behind the boat!

Once I get healed I hope to find something to wear over it. The problem is that I'll have to be very careful and not take it off all day. The real issue is that I had skin cancer that most people get in their late 40's at the earliest and most of the time you don't see it until people are in their 60's or older. It's not unheard of in people my age but it's rare.

I'll probably end up wearing a cap and some sort of cover or bandage on my face to ride this year. The bad thing is that it's going to be 80 F this week and a friend of mine is taking his boat out this weekend. I can't go until next month at the earliest. It's like putting a cheesecake in front of me and telling me I can't eat it! Laughing

I was in a car that got hit by lightning too, my and my buddy driving in his old firebird, we were probably 17. Heard the loudest crack I've ever heard, what seemed like BEFORE i saw the brightest flash I've ever seen. I still think I might have died that day....
