Hello, I have been doing lots of searching around on this site and I think I have finally made a decision on a board. I have ridden a total of 4 times behind a boat mostly finless on rental boards. I weigh 200 pounds. I am looking at getting the LF PS3 141. It seems like a pretty good deal for $360 with bindings. Now the questions...

Does this seem like a good board for someone with my limited experience and will it last me a while?

How are the Domain bindings I keep seeing the package comes with, and if they arent good what is better?

Is there a particular brand of rope I should be looking into getting?

What is the best brand/type of vest to get?

Thanks for the help.

Alright I have been searching around like crazy and I think I have settled on the 09 LF PS3 board. Also, I am thinking about going with the LF Watson closed toe bindings.

I want to get the 07 or 08 bindings to save some money but will they fit the 09 board with no problem or will I need a compatibility kit to make them fit?

So what do you guys think? Is this setup gonna work for me?

Hey Catgut, welcome to WB.com

I don't think you can go wrong with the PS3 141 and a set of Watson closed toes.

I've been riding an '06 PS3 with Shane CT's for the last 2-plus years and its been a great board. Its fast and loose and relatively forgiving. And I will probably never go back to open toe bindings.

I also think that binding selection is more important than board selection. The best riding board in the world is useless if the bindings are cheapies or don't fit right. The Watson's are a solid choice.

So, like I said, pull the trigger on the PS3/Watsons and I don't think you'll regret it.

As for ropes, just make sure you have a NON stretch wakeboarding-specific rope and handle. They're usually made of Spectra though there are others As with most gear in this sport, you don't have to have the latest and greatest to have top quality. Lots of ropes and handles to be had at closeout prices. You could probably find a great deal on an '08 vs. '09 PS3 as well. I don't think anything has changed except the graphics.

I would second a lot of what HHI Dave has said.

The Domains are decent bindings. I got those on my kids' board and so far they like them. I rode the LF Transits the last couple years and really liked them. I now have the LF Vantage and they are even more comfortable. I have my Transits for sale if you are interested, as well.

As far as vests, try going around to watersports shops and try stuff on. I had started with a pretty decent Body Glove vest and just went to an O'Neill Law. Trying them on is the best bet. Try to find something that fits snug but lets you move fairly easily.

I bought some of my gear from a board shop / dealer in No Cal that has consistently given me some really good prices. If you're interested in checking with them, let me know and I can steer you their way.

Yeah, vests, that's a tough one for me. Okie's right, you gotta try them on if you can.

I had a black '07 Jet Pilot Baller that fit me perfectly. Floated well, fit right, looked good... and it blew out of the boat one day on the way to the ramp (stupid stupid stupid). Crying or Very sad

Since then, I've been on a quest for the right vest.

Most recently, I was riding with a Billabong Sanford, since last July. The elastic drawstring waist started ripping out almost immediately. And, though it floats me, it also gets ripped right over the top of my head on hard falls. It seems to work best with a wetsuit or neo shirt so I'm keeping it as my winter vest, but I'm not in love with it.

About 2 weeks ago I got a good deal on a Liquid Force Analog comp vest. Its also a great looking vest. This one is a side entry zip with a single buckle/belt. Good thing there's a belt too, because I've already blown the zipper out TWICE on hard falls. It doesn't break, it just pops open. Also, this vest fits me well through the chest and shoulders but is a bit too wide around the waist, and I wish it was about 2" longer.

The search continues. Sad

If you have the luxury of trying on vests before you buy, then do it. I don't have any pro-shops near me so I'm kinda screwed in that department. Laughing

catgut,

'08 Liquid Force PS3
http://www.the-house.com/wklf41ps38zz-liquidforce-wakeboards.html

'08 Liquid Force Watson CT bindings
http://www.the-house.com/wkblfwc098zz-liquid-force-bindings.html

Still a good chunk of change at over $500.00, but about $300.00 less than you'd pay for this year's model.

Also, not sure what size you need, but Boardstop has the '07 Watson's in 12-13 for $199.99
http://www.boardstop.com/product_info.php?cPath=119_155&products_id=2062

and they also have the '08 Watson's in 9-10 for $238.00

HHI Dave,,, YOU THE MAN!!!!! Thank you!!!! Those are way better prices than I have been seeing. I need the 10-11 watsons so I got them at the-house also. Not be a complete pain in the butt, but could you give me a suggestion on a rope and handle? I looked on the-house and there are a thousand of them. I see that I need a spectra line but why are there so many different handles. My god its only a tow line. I have only used rental lines so I am pretty confused on the big differences between them all.

Thanks again!!

Call Evan Noren at Salinas Valley Marine and see what he can get on his closeout list or what he has in stock. The prices I've gotten from them have consistently been better than what I can find online. I got the LF Witness board and LF Transit bindings from them for $300 shipped.

Ok well I finally took the plunge and got the 08 PS3 with the 08 Watson Bindings and a Proline LG line and handle. I also ordered The Book. Hopefully my next post will be a video of me asking for help on my w2w.

Thanks again for all the help.

Well catgut, I do believe you are ready to go wakeboarding. Laughing

I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of those choices. The Book is a great learning tool. Follow their guidelines and you'll improve with each session.

Make sure you post up some pictures, preferably riding pics, after you get your new setup. Congrats. Cool

Marshall, the book is great, I got it last week and watched the first two dvds, I want to watch more but I need to work on the stuff in the first two dvds before I can. And its still not quite warm enough to do so.

The Book is great. I tried to ride for a couple of months and self-teach. After I got The Book, I realized how much time I had wasted. You'll love it and progress quickly if you watch Volumes 1 and 2 several times.

Also, get some hot chicks in your boat to use as ballast and post pics of them too.
