Im hoping to land this trick this year. I have been tramping every night for the last 2 weeks and I feel I have it dialed in. I am using the rope to pull myself around pretty well without using my body to initiate the spin.

Now, obviously going to the water will be different Smile

What if anything on the tramp should I do to get the feel a bit more, or basically now its hit the water and go for it?

Any advice for pulling off a 360 would help, specifically to tramp work for now, and notes for when I transfer to liquid.

Tramp helps for sure. One thing to try is jump back away from the rope to simulate some line tension.

The trick with landing it on the water is to wait until you are at the peak of your jump to start the rotation. If you try to pull the handle right off the wake, or even on the way up, there will be too much tension and the trick becomes difficult.

Do this with either free weights attached, or a gallon milk jug filled with water - imo feels a lot closer to an actual handle pass compared to a tramp (plus you don't need a trampoline)

Your on the right track. Just like the others are saying, theres going to be a lot more tension trying to pass the handle, you just have to keep pulling and it'll come around. I'd say hit the water, see how it goes. Have you tried it in the past?

Wakebrad, thanks, yea i try and keep that in mind with the rope on the tramp. Even when just jumping up and down I try and keep the line as tight as I can. If I feel it loosen up, on the next jump I focus on tightening it again. The tip for the water is great, and I will do my best to try and wait it out before pulling to initiate. I guess you just get over the fear of waiting so long?

Sinko, Im definitely going to try that. Thanks for the idea.

pnw, years and years ago I was able to land them, but I was 15 years younger (Im 40 now) and a bit lighter in the build. I just got back on the board last year for the first time in about 15 years and did pretty good, can w2w in both directions now with a 180, and have been on a major diet and health kick for the coming season. Lost 12 lbs now in 3 weeks, with plans to lose about 15 more. Im thinking I can get myself around again.

You will be amazed how sore you are the first few days of doing the weighted handle passes Laughing

I used to do them all the time after school just to kill time and get some exercise - just go do so many rotations one way, slow it down, then do so many rotations the other direction (and you usually want to make sure you're staying planted and only the handle is spinning (some people get tired and start to turn their body to make the passes easier)).

But the feel of it is about as close as you can get to the real thing in terms of the rope trying to pull the handle out of your hands as it goes around towards your back! Have fun with itn Very Happy

Thanks again. I am absolutely going to add this to the regimen. I think this alongside of working on the tramp to get my "air sense" and more handle passing practice will help a lot.

I have some old one gallon paint cans I will fill up and seal off to use.

When I pull one off this summer on vid ill post it up. I hope to have it dialed in by July.

It's funny, wakeboarding is pushing my ice hockey ( a lifelong career from 7 years old) to the background. I simply cant wait to get out there again now, and more than last year really want to improve.

I know I wont ever be able to pull of the really sick stuff, but Ill be happy with some spins and the first few beginner inverts.

Good luck to you too! Have you started any training at all? The tramp is working wonders so far.

Yea, I rode for a few years way back, almost every day or every few days and was very good. I could do a lot of tricks. Then life took over, and it fell by the wayside because it interfered with the day to day stuff. I kept up ice hockey since that was always at night, so I could get away to play almost whenever.

Wish I could have stayed with riding. I'm sure Id be one of those who gives advice continually instead of asking for it!

It's cool that there are some older guys around here. I do really wish I would have picked boarding in my early 20's, but back then it was more about partying (still kinda is Laughing ) and who could take the fastest, sharpest cuts on the slalom. I sold my old tri hull when I was 24 and pretty much quite skiing till around 6 years ago when I bought the boat I have now. I started boarding year before last, but had a real hard time getting out of the water, last season I really got into and I'm completely hooked. I know I'll never be a pro, but a few air tricks would be cool. Besides I ride just for the love of riding, not to impress anyone lol.

As for training, I go to the gym 3-4 days a week, and do a full stretching routine every morning and evening. I do have an old ski handle laying around, so I'm going to make one of those things and add that to my evening routine.

Oh, I partied Very Happy Actually still do lol. Thats one thing I never gave up. Glad you got back into it and yea, most importantly having some fun out there.

you guys are an inspiration!

Here i am thinking that at 34 my boarding years are numbered. Ive spent the last 13 years snowboarding, and am now on the verge of getting my first boat and really wanting to huck it but being worried im too old for it. yeah right!

I did the weighted handle pass last night, and yeah, I feel it. Definatly some different muscles used to swing around the back. Laughing
