I've had the same question, good thread. From what I know, it means it is more expensive, has nicer artwork, and is absolutely guaranteed to improve your trick list. _________________

The tip and tail do have a different shape then a beginners board, a beginner has a rounded tip and tail, and a rounded edge, its more forgiving.
While a pro board will have a ''hook'' edge, and a batt tip and tail, its very catchy.
And pro boards are more expensive ofcourse _________________

you guys are off a little
there's a diff in a Pro board and an Advanced board
Advanced means the shape is probably less forgiving for a beginner
Pro means it is a shape endorsed by a pro who probably also picked or designed the art.
Pro board could still be a beginner board. |

Well if you are literally, youre right, but i think he means common ''noob'' and ''pro'' keywords, meaning an advanced board.
Think straight and not too difficult _________________

well he said he reads about "pro model" boards. if it's in a magazine saying pro model then it's probably an ad for "Shawn Murray's new pro model" If that is the case then what I said applies, if he is just speaking of a pro level board then I'm just being too literal.
whatever Medina quit being such a richard

If a "pro" has his name attached to the board it is a "pro-model." Most pro-models now have their name as the pro. Watson, Shane, Byerly, etc. It isn't always like that. Before the "Watson", Shawn Watson's pro-model was the "Substance."
Generally pro-models are the more advanced boards that cost more. But that does not always hold true. If I remember correctly Kyle Schmidt had a pro model a few years back that was more of an intermediate/forgiving board. Advertisers use the term "pro-model" instead of just saying "advanced model" because it sounds better. Since it generally holds true that "pro-models" are advanced boards it is generally understood. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

so by that definition, of the 3 boards i have:
2007 Hyperlite Calibre 139, 2008 Liquid Force Witness 136, 2008 Byerly Legacy 54"
only the byerly is a 'pro model'? |

As for the characteristics of an advanced board you are looking at:
Shape of edge - Sharper is more advanced. Rounded is forgiving for beginners
Rocker size - The amount of curve to the board. More is advanced
Rocker shape - continuous, 3 stage, or progressive. Generally continuous is beginner but is not always the case. I think the Murray is still continuous (at least it was a few years back)
Fin configuration - Beginner boards will usually have more, and larger fins. Advanced boards will have less and smaller fins. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |
