I'm planning on going to the Wakeboard Camp this summer but time/obligations prevent me from going for a full week. I did however find out they do day sessions as well.
Does anybody have any feedback on the how effective the day sessions are, especially if you link 3 of them up together? I know the week long camp gets great reviews but wondering if I'll get the same experience in a shorter amount of time. |

Hey Dalderman,
I have always gone to The Wakeboard Camp for a day or two at a time. It is extremely effective, more so if you ask me, than five days in a row. They are going to push you and you will feel it even after just a few days. Honestly I make progress in one day - they evaluate where you are at, give you a few great drills to practice and then you go home and put it all together. There is only so much learning curve you can have at any one time. Go, have fun, take it home and make it work. Mondays are particularly helpful because they have a "classroom session" that really explains the principles of wakeboarding. In my opinion they are the best coaches out there.
Where are you at in your riding? What would you hope to accomplish out of a few days? |

Lizrd,
Thanks for the input. I've only been riding since June and try to get out every week. I'm starting to ride at longer rope lengths to get comfortable with the increased air time. At this point, my heelside in pretty solid and I'm getting very comfortable with my grabs, landing into the flat and I'm landing my hs w2w 180. My toeside is almost there it's just a matter of getting more water time and consistent with my edging and comfortable with the technique. I also try to ride a lap switch at some point every session to progress that.
I'm planning to go for at least 3 days this June, including a Monday session, and hope accomplish all four w2w 180's and start working toward a 360 and first invert.
Is that realistic? |

"laps" are bad. Don't circle your lake. (unless you absolutely have to) You mess it up for everyone, including yourself. Go straight, make a 'P', and come back down the line you just made. Rinse, repeat. And when you fall, please don't powerturn. We will yell at you. _________________ http://kmags.mybrute.com/

Depends on how much you can take in at once. I wouldnt reccomend riding more than 3 sets a day. If your tired and not soaking up the lesson your wasting your money. _________________ Random Acts Of Dumbness Will Always Be Rewarded. |

I'd say progression depends on several things: general board control, overall fitness level, guts, and how well you can process instructions. Do I think you can get all 180s? Depends how good your switch riding is because you are either taking off or landing switch. An invert and a 360 - sure that's possible if you have the things I mentioned above. There are people who can do inverts who can't do a TS W2W.
Work on your Ollie 180s and one wake 180s and the W2W 180s will be easier. Also, if you don't already have it treat yourself to The Book Instructional DVD. It is put together by the coaches at The Wakeboard Camp and is worth every penny. Have fun! |
