|
|
If you could watch any pro ride in person behind the boat who would it be, and why. This must be answered in 5 paragraph essay form with a three prong thesis as your opening paragraph (HAHAHA JK) BUT lets stick with the three prong thesis format anyhow because it will be fun.
The wakeboarder I would most like to see ride in person behind the boat is ______ because he is _______, ________, and _________.
The wakeboarder I would most like to see ride in person behind the boat is Shaun Murray because he is a true ambassador to wakeboarding, has adapted with the times longer than any other pro, and truly brings fun to the water in every set he takes. |

I'll 2nd Randy Harris. He is the style master and goes bigger than anyone. That and he always seems to have a bunch of really hot girls around him so that would be a plus too _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

wake eater, fail.
Medina, fail.
intotheflats, fail.
Not one three prong thesis so far. Come on guys, I know you did better in English class than that!!
But yeah, Watson and Harris would definitely be on my list as well.
If I were to make a top 5, it would be Murray, Parks, Watson, Vandall, Harf. _________________ Liquid Force

I would like to watch Ben Greenwood from the boat because he is a sick rider, has the smoothest smooth of any pro, and seems like a super nice guy. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

Harris, Lyman, Greenwood. No explanation necessary. Oh, and wanting to watch someone ride from the boat because they are an ambassador for the sport or wot not IMO is lame, next you will want pro riders as role models for your kids...... _________________ Niiiiiiiiice |

The wakeboarder I would most like to see ride in person behind the boat is Keith Lyman because he goes huge and has better style than Randy Harris, takes tricks that everyone does and makes them look totally unique, and finally because he makes me wanna wear my party hat !!!!!! |

Randall. Why? I would find it hard to believe that you could ever see riding like that watching ANYONE else; i.e. HS 9s almost 10 feet into the flats . |

| I think Adam Fields is a blast to watch. He's always doing really unique stuff like ole spins, and he's so comfortable on the water. I've seen him ride a bunch of times behind the boat, so someone I haven't seen I would say Danny Harf or Lyman |

Scotchy, definitely. Adams sick. Does a bunch of tricks noone usually does.
For me it would definitely be Harris because he goes bigger than anyone (on the whole), has a unique flavor (wrapped spins and the ways he tweaks his grabs), and I want to see what its like to ride at 30 mph and 100 feet of rope in person. |

What doesn't make sense to me about Harris riding at such a fast speed is that he loses so much wake size. At 30mph no matter how weighted the boat is, the wake is not going to be that great. We typically run 3500lbs of ballast and the wake is perfect at 24 mph but even if I were able to get an extra 1000 lbs in (which I am not) the wake still would shrink a ton at 30, although I think he might be riding at 28-29ish. It just seems like it would make a lot more sense if he rode a 90 foot rope at maybe 26 mph then 100 feet at 28-30.
As for going bigger than anyone else, I am going to have to respectfully disagree with that statement. He used to go bigger than everyone but now a lot of guys are just absolutely boosting what seems to me bigger than the Vandall. I think Lyman and Dean Smith are both going bigger than Harris now with Dean maybe going the biggest. _________________ Liquid Force

ilubronix, this is why I saw (on the whole). That could be worded better, but consider this... Harris does every single trick he knows into the flats. Even hard to boot ones like Pete Roses and TS 9s. Not just tricks he is comfortable with. I honestly dont think Ive ever seen Harris case the 2nd wake. Not true for Dean Smith. He goes huge on most stuff, but not everything. Some tricks are w2w, in fact he cases it pretty good on a TS 7 (I think) in Bent Felix. Now Im sure Harris has cased it sometime and Dean usually doesnt, but its a 99% guarantee that when hes (Randall) cutting in for a trick, no matter what it is, itll be in the flats. With Dean Smith or Lyman, its a probably. Lyman does a lot of his Ole stuff/720+ spins w2w. Dont get me wrong I think they are both sick but I just think that Harris consistently goes bigger and on harder tricks. Harris already has a deeper bag of tricks IMO than Lyman and every one is into the flats, even the biggest hammers. Also, his double ups are launched super far into the flats, which I dont think Lyman and Smith do as much, so while Smith may go higher or Lyman occasionally further, Harris still takes the cake in my book for the consistent level of ridiculousness.
As for the wake, I guess he must really just like the thrill of speed and going bigger. At 26mph and 90 you could go huge, but with that extra 10 feet of line, you can go that much further into the flats by having the extra rope. Honestly, I doubt the wake size is that crucial for him, at that speed, when you rail into the wake, it could be the size of a curb but if you smack it with that much speed you are going to carry into the flats. Maybe Im wrong, but I feel like when I ride 80 feet (vs 70) the wake is tiny but since I can get so much more cut speed I still get more hang time (although less height proportionally) because of the speed, even though the wake is like a ripple. |

I'd really like to see Rusty on the boat. He is the first pro I've seen on a board (through videos), as well, He is kinda pushing factor to me starting to board. Yes, huge I am a huge noob, but I am willing/trying to learn. _________________ "Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy not suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat" |

direct quote from The Vandal in Alliance wake "If i'm not in a wheelchair by the time I'm 50, I'm not trying hard enough"
he has also never blown out his knees....
last I knew, he was riding 95' and 29mph. Maybe has adjusted all that a bit with different boats/gear and what not though. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

savage3221, I remember that quote. Yeah he has quoted different numbers, I guess it depends on the set up. Ive heard 92.5-100ft rope and 27-31mph speed. I believe the 100ft 31mph came from WBM recently but Im not positive on that.
I didnt know that he never blew a knee...I assumed it because he rocks the dual knee braces all the time. I guess hes just smarter than the rest of us and is being preventitive. |

Yes, he did say they were for preventative reasons. I followed his lead on that, and went and got two for myself. Not anything crazy, but I went to Sports Authority and bought some decent braces. Figured it was better than nothing.
And I agree totally about the Lyman/Dean Smith/Vandall "debate". Dean Smith goes huge, and so does Lyman. It's just the consistency factor. Vandall ALWAYS goes huge. That's the difference.
i.e. TS BS 5 into the flats. I don't think anyone else does that (as big as Randall). Pete Rose into the flats, some other people do them (again, not as big, in my opinion) like that...sometimes. 9s, both ways (espcially toeside), into the flats, other riders rarely do.
Vandall does all of the above, and obviously more, huge, into the flats, ALL the time. |
