I am trying to decide between a pair of Double Pair Speaker Cans With the Polk Audio 6.5" DB series drives or a set of Wetsounds Pro-80's. Now I know that the Wetsounds are a better speaker but they are pricey too so my specific questions are:

1) If powered by the same amp, which would be louder 4 of the Polk Speaker or 2 of the Wetsound Pro-80's. The amp I'm using can push 120 RMS oas should power the speakers just fine.

2) What would offer wider sound dispersion?

The difference in Price is also quite big. 4 of the Polks speakers in cans can run as cheap as $350, while the Pro80's are $1k a pair. I guess I'm looking for the best bang for my buck. I already have a pair of the single Polks and I could hear them great while running off this same amp, so I thought 4 should be perfect (or if there is room on the tower, all 6). Any feedback is great.

I have just recently changed my entire stereo system to all Polk speakers, and the sound is awesome.

I personally have not heard any Wetsound speakers, but from the way some of these guys talk about them, they must be nice.

But, like you price was an issue for me also. I picked up a set of 4 Polk tower speakers in a pair of dual cans, and you can clearly hear them standing 70 ft in back of the boat, which is the length of my driveway.

I've got 5 pairs of polk speakers in the boat, and a Polk subwoofer. I'm a music person by heart, and play the drums, and I can honestly say that I'm way more than pleased with the sound of these Polk speakers.

I have an amp running the boat speakers, a seperate amp running the Tower speakers, and another amp running the subwoofer.

The one thing I would definetely recommend to you though is to by a Wetsounds Ws-420 equalizer for you setup. Then you can control your boat speakers, and tower speakers independently. Plus there are a lot more extras that come with having a ws-420.

You can shoot me an e mail to twhite@wetsounds.com and I can see if we have a dealer near you so you can get a demo.

One pair of PRO 80's is going to put out a lot more sound and volume at 80 feet back than 2 or even 3 pairs of a 6.5 inch car audio based speakers. So I guess it would be what your sound goals are. Are you just wanting to add some sound. In and around the boat. Adding the second pair of car based speakers might work well for you.

If you really want to experience the music at 80 feet back, stepping up to the 80's would be the key. Which is why I always try to see if we can get people a demo. Hearing is Believing is our slogan and sometimes you just have to hear them to truly experience the difference in sound.

All of our tower speakers are designed to have a wide dispersion. you can see this by the shape of the horn. It will project sound out to the rider and also off axis. So you can still hear the music while outside the wake.

A car audio speaker is not designed to have this type of dispersion as they are designed to be in a car door. Close to your ears.

The pro audio technology that is used in the PRO 80 is what you see at rock concerts. Speakers are designed for loud volume and to be projected far distances in and outdoor area. This is why you do not see little home surround sound speakers at rock concerts. So is it nothing about the brand of speakers. It is using the right speaker set up for your application.

In and around the boat. Regular coaxs are great. 80 feet back at 22 miles and hour with engine noise and wind noise. They will not be able to keep up. No matter how many you have as it is not what the speaker is designed for.

Hope this helps and let me know where your at and I will check our dealer database for you.

gx205, have you tried it at wakeboarding speeds? Standing 70ft back in the quiet is a lot different than 70ft back traveling 22 mph with boat noise. Not saying it won't hold up but the drive-way test is pretty different than actual use.

Wakebrad, No I haven't even got my boat in the water yet with the new sound system I insatalled. I didn't mean to sound like my simple driveway test was the same as at speed. I just walked back away from my boat to just hear how it sounded, and you could easily hear the tower speakers and they weren't even turned up full blast.

I'm in no way saying that the Polk speakers are equal to Wetsounds, as I have never personally heard any Wetsound speakers in person. Also in no way I'm I trying to cut Wetsounds down, as they are a GREAT company to work with.

When I get my boat in the water this spring, I'll get a chance to see if I can indeed hear the tower speakers at speed. If not then I might also have to look into a set of Wetsounds, but my cousin has a Mastercraft, that I think ??..came stock with his Polk tower speakers, and you can hear his music riding behind him, so I'm hoping mine will be the same.

Also to Tim from Wetsounds, who is the nearest dealer to me?? I'm in Winchester Va. I would like to hear some of your company's speakers in person also.

Thanks

GX, Shoot me an e mail as well to twhite@wetsounds.com

The best way to put it. Is the difference in hearing a little of the music and actually experiencing the music.

I have been pulled over on the lake for loud music. The cop was in his office, which is upstairs in the marina, and he was 1/4 of a mile away. This is actually experiencing the music when you ride when it has that much power.

Now this is with a pair of PRO 485's and a pair of PRO 60's. So a bit more power but will give you an idea of the amount of volume.
