Looking for recommendations for wakeboard instruction in central or south FL. I know there are plenty of options, but would like to get first-hand accounts of the various schools/instructors, esp because my husband won't have time to stay for a week-long course (we're interested in something for a 2-3 day timeframe). He's in his mid-30s, & used to wakeboard a lot in his 20s. I'd like him to get some instruction so he can get better quickly & avoid injury. We just got a new Nautique & he's rarin' to go-

Thanks a bunch in advance-

I love The Wakeboard Camp in Clermont, FL. They work on logical progression of skills and have some great teachers. I have been several places, and while some people can really rip on a board they can't teach worth a darn. Every coach I have worked with at The Wakeboard Camp is a great teacher. They work well with adults and have a chain of lakes to find glass on. It is not just a bunch of punks telling you to "rip it in!" They are also the producers of "The Book" -probably the best instructional DVD out there. You can't go wrong with a few days at The Wakeboard Camp. The only thing you need to know is lodging is a bit "rustic" - but if it is just your hubby he likely won't give it a second thought. I prefer a few more creature comforts.

I second that. The Wakeboard Camp is a fantastic place. The instructors are knowlegable and personable. Head coach Kyle Schmidt is the instructional editor for Wakeboarding Magazine. He has instituted a highly effective teaching system that is applied universally by all of their instructors. Chad Lowe has taken over a good portion of the head coaching duties lately and he is very good at it. Also, wakeboarder.com forum member "Toothpick" is a coach there as well.

Like Lizrd said, they are the producers of "The Book" instructional DVD series. Also, Kyle S. and Mike Mclin created and run learnwake.com, a wakeboarding instruction website.

Every time one of these threads comes up, I just can't say enough good things about TWC. If you're looking for a camp in central FL, then you can't go wrong there. Your husband will have a great time and will be amazed at how much his riding progresses after just a couple of days.

Does TWC offer any Th-Sun or Fri-Sun courses? Just looking at their website it seems they only offer a one full week course.

They can do all kinds of custom programs. Just give them a call or shoot them an email and they will put something together. Generally it is three sets a day so there will be lots of ride time. Sometimes you can learn something from watching the others, too.

HHI Dave - thanks for adding the other information about Kyle and the Camp. I just think they are about the best value around. Truly quality coaching with a great understanding of the fundamentals. I'm ready to join learnwake once Chicago thaws out.
