Sony HD Camcorder question

I have a Sony HD camcorder that I want to convert the HD files (m2ts/AVCHD) into a smaller format that I can post or send via email. The Sony software that was included with the camera can covert them to an mpeg file, but these are too big as well. Is there a way I can convert a 50mb video file into something under 10mbs? I realize I'd be sacrificing quailty, but I want to be able to at least send them via email.

the easiest way to send any kind of video is via AIM, you just send the file just like youd send a picture than bam two minutes later your friend has the video...
