A V-8 inboard is way easier to work on then a teched out V-6. You can acces the motor much easier, can find parts anywhere and any car mechanic knows how to work on them. Hell I know nothing about engines and have never had my boat in the shop once for work and I've done a whole lot of stuff to it (W/the help of others of course).

Good luck finding parts or someone who can work on a jet boat in a pinch. Compare the two pics, what looks easier.

What's with this?

Sounds like a good way to trash you boat and injure people aboard.

Ok Moss Heres where its at Iwas in the same position as you in October 02
I am 30yo and don't go as hard as the younger guys that come out with me thats some background 4 u. In October I was stoked to be standing up like you. I am now in June just starting to look at heelside 360s
ALL boats have problems new or old my last boat died on the middle of the harbour back home with 10hrs on the dial and there were a couple of other problems too.
***The main thing that you want IMHO is a clean wake (that is not too soft)***** If the Jet gives you this then go for it.
If you are worried about Resale then maybe look hard at what you are likely to get for the Jet when you do sell it.
As far as maintenance on the Engine (I don't do any work on my engine always goes to a boat mechanic) Ask around a couple of boat servicing places and see if it will cost you any more for jet boat servicing than a DD.
A mate of mine has an old DD (dunno what manufacturer) but it is reliable cause it has been very well maintained and it is the most fun boat I have ever driven
(I've driven Jetboats, Jetskis, outboards, and DDs)
He could easily get what he paid for it a couple of years ago now. And remember that with the popularity of wakeboarding there will definitely be people in the same position as you when you are ready to sell your boat.
last but not least how much have you got to spend dude!!??!!

I have already checked into the service work there are 3 mechanics here in town that can work on it. There is even one at the local marina. As for proce of maintenace it is the exact same powerhead off of a mercruiser so it will cost the same whether I buy an I/O or jet. As far as resale I could care less because odds are I won't be selling it or if i do it will be so long from now that I won't expect much anyway.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! It is not the exact same powerhead as an I/O!!! It's exactly the same as a mercury outboard!!! There's a big difference. The jet you are looking at is only about half the displacement of a mercruiser small block (I/O or inboard). It relies more on it's ability to generate rpm's as opposed to a small block's generating more torque. They're apples and oranges. Sure, any mercury tech can work on it, but it is not the same thing!

Once again, not saying a jet is better or worse, I just think you need to get your facts straight.

Mossimo buddy. Pull your head out of your ass and think for a minute. A jet boat isn't what you need. 8 year old boats don't just break down all the time in the middle of the lake. If you want to waste some good money and never have a decent day of wakeboarding, then buy a jet boat. And Trevo, I've read alot of your posts, you're reduciulous man. I don't mean that in a bad way though, you sound like a little dumb@ss, just like half of my friends, probably a pretty funny kid.

mossimo why dont you listen to theses people. youve never wakeboarder before and most of the people here are just trying to help you make a decision you wont regret. they know what they are talking about. why do you ask for help then not listen to it when it is given to you.

Hang on guys it is important to remember that (almost) any boat can be used for wakeboarding. Yes the norm is to go for a DD or a VD but people have jsust as much fun with outboards and I/Os I know of people that wakeboard or have wakeboarded behind Jetskis.
You don't have to own a DD or a VD to become a hardcore wakeboarder but it is true that they would be the preference for most because of the characteristics of the wake that they produce.
I will say this for the last time

"THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT THE WAKE PRODUCED IS CLEAN AND NOT TO SOFT"

moss if the boat that your looking at does that no worries I would suggest that you get someone who wakeboards ok to test it out if u can (someone that can do a wake 2wake jump and get pop
good luck dude
