Hey! I've been skiing and boating all my life, but I'm just now getting serious about it. Unfortunately, I live in New Mexico, and there doesn't seem to be much of a community down here for wakeboarding. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about wakeboarding in new Mexico. Is there hope, or am I going to have to move to someplace a little wetter?

also, how often do you get days of good water? I've never boated outside New Mexico, and it tends to be windy, so glassy water is a rare thing and wildly celebrated.

Reading this back, it really sounds like I just live in the wrong place...

Here's a link to the Corps website showing lakes in NM. This might help, depending on where you live...

http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visitors/states.cfm?state=NM

I've got a colleague that lives out there. He isn't much into wakeboarding...more of a snowboarder. He lives in Albuquerque. I can ask him what he may know about good lakes to go to if you'd like.

Here's some more information from my colleague (He's in Albuquerque, by the way)...

Quote:

Oh yea, there are quite a few popular places for skiing and wakeboarding.

Elephant Butte is probably the most popular for watersports including windsurfing and kite boarding as there's usually at least a decent breeze and many times downright windy. It's south on I-25 near Truth or Consequences - about 2 1/2 hours.

Bluewater State Park is not too far from here and usually has glassy, clear water, but is usually quite a bit cooler. It's west of here about an hour on I-40 just past Grants, off the interstate at Prewitt on Hwy 412. It's about another half hour or so from there on a paved, decent two-lane road.

Those are the two most popular lakes in NM for watersports. There are quite a few others that are not quite so large, but are still used quite a bit - although mostly for fishing and camping:

Twin Lakes, Navajo Reservoir, Cochiti Reservoir, and many people here in NM even drive out west to Lake Mead at the Hoover Dam.

So it looks like you have some halfway decent options. Not the perfect situation, but it's not like you have zero choices either.
