hello,
i'm totally new to all this. i dont have a mentor in this sport, so i ask dumb questions on this forum.

what is a good rope setup for wakeboarding (length, make, whatever)? i assume some strech is good.

you use the fancy non-strech ropes for waterskiing right. and those are considerably longer i imagine.

whats the advantage of having a separate rope and handle?

You want no stretch rope. Its a little pricey, but you can find a main line for aroudn 60 bucks if you look around. If you use the stretchy rope, as soon as you release off teh wake, it will start to spring you forward, pulling you off axis. Handles are almost always separate from the rope so that you can replace either component if necessary. Youll probably want to start with a short rope, around 55 feet or so, and gradually let rope out as you progress and you want a wider wake for more air time.

turbohoje, you may want to start at 55' but typical wakelines are 70 to 80 feet, then a 5 foot handle. Most have 3 takeoff loops, so a 70 foot rope would go in to 55' then add 5 feet for you handle. so on a 70 foot rope the shortest you could go is 60 and the longest is 75'

And another reason wakeboarding is better than surfing, you die less, that means you have another day to wakeboard, which is more fun than surfing anyway.

I have an 80 foot rope and even after taking out the 3 loops it was still too long with the handle, so I had to create a new loop in the line.

alot of ropes are different. it does get confusing sometimes Puppy Eyes
every ski rope in the world is 75ft with a handle, and these normaly have 5 loops.
but you'd probably want to get a "spectra" line (non sptretch) as LakeIolaLuke said.
alot have different sections, but you'll find the right one... eventually Smile
