|
|
Hey guys. I could use some help on my tantrum. I have never landed one. Today I put in about 10 tries.
Here's what I try to do:
Cut out on toes as far as i can, drift for a sec or two, then..
Roll onto heels and cut in pretty aggressively but in control, bend knees...
As I hit the wake, I stand tall, let go with back hand, and try to square up to the wake...
In the air I try to go up first then back. And I commit to never letting go of the handle...
I can do backflips all day on a tramp.
But what happens to me (basically everytime) is that I guess I am throwing it slightly away from the boat (not squared up) and the handle is impossible to hold at my hip and ends up pulling me into a backside spin, I lose my rotation and I land on my butt facing the shore I was heading towards, having done a complete 180 upsidedown.
I am really trying to square up at the wake but for some reason I'm taking the trick away from the boat.
I would appreciate any tips you could give me on how to square up completely.
I feel like my cut is good, my pop is good and I know I can do the correct backflip rotation, its just doing it sideways vs away from the boat thats giving me problems.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
(sorry no videos, I hope I described the problem well) _________________ Don't listen to advice from people who can't land that trick. My list:

Also, just FYI:
I ride finless and at 55', 19mph. I dont know if that matters but maybe it does?
Ty for link splash. I am getting higher than you, but my rotation is even less squared up than you I believe....
Any pointers on how to square up from anyone? _________________ Don't listen to advice from people who can't land that trick. My list:

watching Splash' video I realized he's trying to stare at the wake even as he's riding up it about to flip, witch could certainly throw off your flipping axis. It also seems like he's kind of staring into the boat, which would cause his body to go to revert like he is. Like someone else said in that thread, he's not committing, he's all scrunched up, staring into the boat afraid to take his eyesight away from where he's going.
Without having seen your video, it *could* be that you aren't backing off enough. Trying to throw a backflip around with a fully loaded line is very difficult and will boot you really awkwardly. Try creating some slack as you flip by really backing off, and maybe even trying to dig in a bit on your toeside edge really abruptly. I know on a REALLY small wake, the only way I can get a tantrum around is by digging in HARD on my toeside edge right as I back off.
As you get more comfortable with it, you can toy with where to let off for the flip which will help you take it bigger.
One other thing that helps typically with these kinds of tricks is to wait longer than you think you should. I tell people to wait 2 seconds longer than they think they should, only because when they think they're waiting 2 seconds longer it's actually like 1/2 of a second. |

| I'm assuming you know this, but just in case... as you back off make eye contact with the shore, that will help you square your shoulders a bit more. |

| Their are two reasons people usually come round off square. The first is throwing it too early before you have squared up properly, which is the most common. But a lot of people (me included) have problems after the pop because they pull the handle across their body once in the air. From what you said about not being able to keep the handle to your hip you may find this is where the problem lies. Let your front hand come out straight out towards the boat as you come off your edge. You then rotate around the line. You don't want the handle at your hip - it should be out towards the boat. |
