I'm thinking about buying a blu ray drive for my pc. What is needed to be able to hook up the sound to the TV? I have a video card with a tv out port, so that is covered. I just can't figure out how the sound works.
Thanks

Your sound card probably has left and right channel RCA outs, yeah? Use those. Are wanting to do surround? _________________ Get Frugally Green!

Chances are you're not going to get HD out of that TV out port. Unless it's an HDMI output.
You need to get a sound card with surround sound output. Some have digital coaxial outs, others have optical outs. On mine I run digital coaxial and split it, one to my computer speakers, one to my home theater. This way I don't have to worry about trying to manage it with software.
If you want a dedicated computer for your TV I think all of this is worth it. If you want a computer to do both office use and TV, it's a biiiig hassle.
I finally got mine working well but it took a lot of work. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

I'm not going to do surround sound right now. How much better does a pc look on a tv(games, movies, whatever)? When watching a movie on the pc and monitor it looks like crap. Here is the soundcard that I have.

That soundcard is good. If you wanted surround sound go with the spdif out. If not just get headphone splitter and an RCA converter. You can find this online or at radioshack.
If the picture looks small on your monitor that's normal. But if the picture looks crappy on your monitor it'll look even crappier blown up on a big TV.
Do you know what kind of video out put you plan to use for your TV? Do you have an HDMI out? _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |
