been trying to stomp a w2w for a while now but just cant do it... I land on the crest of the second wake almost everytime and eat it. I had my dad take some pics while i was riding today to see what im doing wrong. Looks like i may not be straighting my back leg and just straighting my front leg cause the board is usually nose high. And it also looks like i tend to bring the rope up way to high when i jump. I just want to get the w2w so i can stop beating myself to death on the landings. I can do 180's and some grabs but just cant take them very big otherwise i land on the crest and crash... So help me out what am i doing wrong?

show us some pics of your cut into the wake and it would help a lot. But from the last pick ur just plowin through the wake. Stand tall at the top with the rope low. That will keep you in control so even if you do come up short you'll still be able to save a landing.

But it looked like the wake curled over on you in the last one anyway so that could be why it looked like you just plowed through it.

A vid would help a lot too.

Agreed. A video would be much more helpful. We can't tell from the pic if you are edging properly into the wake or just starting way outside of it and crashing into it. Looking at your last pic, I suspect it is the "crash the wake" method you're trying. Regardless, your back and rope position aren't going to make a whole lot of difference without a good progressive edge.

Ya that last pic im plowing through the wake there. The wake is washed out now that i look at the pic, cause look at the wake you can tell the boat is still turning and look before where im jumping the wake is already washed.

On my edge to the wake i cut out, wait for the boat to start to pull then build my edge up to the wake. Im not flying when i hit the wake either, ive done that before you just come flying at it and dont get much air.

I will try and get a video next time ill just have to bring another person with. Ill try to get out tonight if i can. Hoping i can cause weekends suck all them tubers and jetskiers are out there power turning and making huge waves. I usually take out my jetski though when they are here cause man hitting some of those rollers are a blast!

you really need to work on standing up tall through the wake. The reason you're going all over the place with your posture is because you're probably jumping (notice your knees are sucked up in every picture) trying to get a bit of extra umph. You need to let the boat and the wake do the work for you.

Getting air on a wakeboard is all about resistance. If you let your knees be soft and allow for a lot of "give" you'll be like a shock absorber and not get much air. If you go through the wake with a bit of stiffness in your knees, the wake will kick you in the air because you didn't suck up all that upward momentum by absorbing everything with your knees. Standing tall tends to lock out your knees, thus why everybody tells you to stand tall through the wake (plus the benefit of good posture and control once in the air).

Also, a pylon would do WONDERS if you could acquire one somehow, and make sure your rope has absolutely no recoil/stretch (tubing ropes are the worst thing you could be using basically), those things REALLY make a difference.

Ya i am not trying to physically jump at the wake. I understand the part of standing and allowing the board to pop you out of the water. I don't know why i suck my knees up its just a habit. Maybe i do the same snowboarding and get it from that? Ill definitely get a video next time.

The slack in the rope and handle up near your eyes is killing you. The slack tells you you're decelerating and the rope up too high is taking away a ton of your pop.

Thanks. How do i stop decelerating? Ill try and keep the rope lower from now on.

You decelerate because you're coming off your edge before you hit the jump. Even though you may feel like you aren't doing it, that is the only way it happens. Get a video, it will help tremendously. The camera doesn't lie.

Keep the handle at your hips, not at your neck/chest.

Also another thing the pictures reveal is that in almost all of these pictures the boat is turning while you are trying to jump the wake. Tell your boat drive to drive in a straight line.

I got some really good tips during a coaching session today.

Basically slow everything down, take your time.

Edge out toeside as far as you can go, then 'slowly' arc around and head back towards the wake. Build up speed by edging more on your heelside and bend your knees more and more as you approach the wake. Keep the handle low and more into your leading hip.

When you hit the wake, stand tall, literally stand up, push the handle down and pop off the wake.

When you hit the landing, don't forget to bend your knees - this is my biggest problem - and keep that handle as low as possible.
