|
|
Skwake, never without a drink in his hand, managed to spill rum and Coke onto my girlfriend's laptop keyboard when he was here winding up his trip. Thankfully after we left it for 24 hours it came back to life, albeit not until after a few touch and go moments where lights went funny colours and things refused to work. Skwake probably spent his whole flight home thinking that he was going to have to shell out for a new lappy
Anyway, the damage seems to be limited to keys that stick, making typing quite frustrating. I have removed the keyboard assembly but without taking off every individual key, I still can't access the area I need to clean. This might sound like a stupid question but could I wash the entire assembly in warm water? I know that seems insane but I feel it would work. When the board is removed it contains no circuit boards (that I can see), just the pressure pads for the keys, the keys themselves, a piece of circuit ribbon that connects it to the motherboard, and an aluminium backing plate. It seems like if I washed it to get the sticky Coke junk out then let if fully dry, it would be fine. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite.
Does anybody in know much about laptop repair and cleaning? I have heard about using a small vacuum but I doubt that would work in this instance.
Thanks. _________________ Terminate high thinking |

pop off all of the keys and use alcohol with a q-tip.. that's the best way.. I wouldn't use water AT ALL. It will corrode everything. The alcohol, if spilled inside would evaporate quickly. _________________ just livin' man, just livin' |

You should have taken the laptop and beaten Fid to a pulp.
Not sure how that would have fixed the keyboard, but like a dog - it should have taught him not to go near a laptop with a drink again..... or at least put some fear in him. _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
. |
