I used to wakeboard a lot and got decent at it. 6 years past and now I am trying to get back into the swing of things. I can get up and carve around just great. However, for some reason, when I go to do a heelside jump and try to clear the wake I crash and burn, or bust open my nose like last time..ha
After reading some of the basic online tips it appears that the best way to jump and clear the wake is to STAND TALL AND KEEP THE LINE TIGHT. Is the answer this easy?? I have been coming into the wake fast, crouched down real low as if on a skateboard, then when I come down my balance is all off..
Any suggestions or confirmations are greatly appreciated! |

Standing tall is what converts the line tension that you build edgeing into the wake into air time. Keeping the line tight is what maintains this needed line tension by edging through the wake. These are things that lead to you having good form and getting maximum area, and not necissarily from landing on your face. I have definately approached the wake with good technique and gotten great air only to eat it on the landing.
If you are getting pulled over on your face, try keeping the handle at your hip. It makes the point the rope is pulling on you at a much lower center of gravity. It also creates more play in your arms with the ability to let your arms out if it jerks real hard. Also, try landing back on your heal edge. If you are trying to land flat on the board it may lead to you catching your toeside edge and face planting. |
