Hey, I started wakeboarding about two weeks ago, I can W2W pretty consistently, but I feel its more from speed and distance. I don't feel like I'm getting a good pop, and I'm not getting the height that I want. I've been working on a progressive edge, but still not seeing the pop. Any tips?

Also, I'm working on a heelside frontside 360, and it's not coming too well. I just can't seem to get enough rotation, I'm getting more like a 320. I can't 180 yet cuz I don't like riding switch, so I'm skipping that and moving to the 360. How can I get a faster rotation?

sevenlayercookie, you're doing pretty well for just starting two weeks ago. you just don't seem like you're comfortable yet out there. Try to get out there more and just ride and keep up the w2w jumps and they'll get better with each set. But what you can do is try taking a shorter cut, start the edge like you normally do but really dig your heels in and be sure to extend off the wake with your legs.

now with the 360, i'd say wait on that a bit. I've been riding 4 years now and just started trying them this year. I'd suggest working on your toeside jumps and taking them w2w. and after a session of some w2w jumps ts and hs then slow the boat down a bit and ride switch for a couple minutes carving around staying between the wakes. You really should get 180's consistent before trying a 360. once you have them down with some decent switch riding, give the 3 another shot. if you skip the 180 and keep at the 3, you'll be regretting it later.

Alright, thanks for the advice! I'm still kinda fuzzy with the jumps. I've been trying to straighten my legs and all that jazz, but it seems like at best I only gain a few inches. At what point do I begin extending or whatever?

Yeah, I figured I should probably learn to ts w2w and switch and 180s and all that first Sad . Oh well, shouldn't be that bad. Thanks again.

You need to extend your legs (stand up, stand tall) through the wake. Your knees are still pretty bent and this is likely absorbing some of your pop. Bent knees is a subtle change but it will really generate more striaght up pop.

Your approach to the wake is very seated. This seated position is fine, but it means that you have to time the standing up when you go through the wake. If you launch off the wake still seated (you are) your knees will likely absorb some of the pop. Technically, for a progressive edge you want to have a taller approach as you edge in toward the wake. A taller approach will make it a little easier to pop striaght up because you don't have to time the move from a seated position to a tall position as you hit the wake.

Also, look at the wake before you start your cut (especially if you are going to go for the seated approach, aka "ollie edge") this will help your timing for standing up through the wake.

You're looking pretty good though. And I agree that you should start working on TS W2W before going for 3's. This is my 3rd summer riding. I tried 3's my first summer and took some really nasty falls because I wasn't ready for the trick and my W2W wasn't consistent enough to go after the trick. Work the TS W2W and HSFS 180's, the grab them before you start messing w/ 3's. Grabbed 180's look way more stylish than a hucked 360 anyway.

Stop bending over at the waist, too. Your hips and knees are absorbing a lot of the pop from the wake. Your upper body should be more upright and leaning against the rope.

cant tell but it doesnt look like u have the handle in ur stomach when you are edging, might help a little bit?

Best advice I've received - as a newbie as well - just keep riding and have fun. Keep working on the basics until you are consistent.

Pet has it. All your problems are from breaking at the waist. You are not in a seated position - that is a strong position with your weight back on the line. You are in a weak position with your weight over your feet and your upper body bent forward.
Otherwise looking good for 2 wks - you should be able to get w2w on both sides by the end of your first season.
Don't skip switch because you are bad at it - ride more switch than you do regular until you are as good at each. That will help massively in the long run. Same goes for TS jumps.

i actually have the opposite problem, i can rarely go wake to wake, but i can almost always jump my height.. even if i cut as hard as i can , i only make the crest, unless i use my makeshift pylon then i make it easier, i think crownlines have a very wide wake however.

Hey everybody, thanks for all of the tips! I went out this past weekend and tried again, it definatley added about two feet to my jump. I can probably get more with some more practice, so thanks a lot! Also, I started riding switch, its not nearly as hard as I thought, haha. It helped me a lot with my 180s and junk. Guess I'll stick with the fundamentals until I get those down before I go on to the 360... thanks again
