Well if you can roll to revert after just a couple of BR attempts, then you probably don't need help from anyone in here.

lucasb, sounds like you're going to revert. It's actually a pretty natural rotation. At this point you get to decide whether you want to learn the R2R first or try to bring it back to a regular backroll.

The answer for both is handle placement. To land the regular backroll keep the handle tight at your lead hip. You can drop your back hand but that's a bad habit. To land that R2R just pass the handle and lean over your toes.

there is 2 reason why you can go to revert.

1- you look over your lead sholder while flipping. ( keep your head strait to the boat for strait backroll )

2- you let go the handle with your lead hand

I had the same problem. now I can do both. try it switch, it will go super easilly to half cab roll.

let me know

If you're going to revert you need to keep the handle at your front hip. Letting go with your back hand part way through might help you. I would suggest learning the backroll before the roll to revert - but thats just me.

Most people teach you to look over your lead shoulder. I have the book and thats what they say on there. So I doubt that is what is causeing him to go to revert.

big_steve, if you look over you lead shoulder, you difinitly go to revert, that's why most of poeple can't do switch backroll. we are all end up half cab roll.

3 keys to this trick ;

1- progressive edge (max 12 feet)

2- try to put your rear ears to your rear shoulder and don't look away from the boat. (try to think as a carwheel)

3- keep the handle close to you hips.

here ya go

i feel ur pain. i landed my first backroll this yr, and it was to revert. I'm working on landing more...hopefully Smile but i keep landing on my board to revert and not hanging on to the handle. My prob is that I def let go of the handle w/ my lead hand at the end of my rotation which sends me to revert.
all these posts sound like good advice...i'll have to give it all a try!!!
good luck to u too!
