Must be wigging out about the loss to Forrest...
Light heavyweight sensation Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (Pictures) was arrested Tuesday by Costa Mesa police officers following a high-speed pursuit through the Californian suburbs from Costa Mesa to Newport Beach, according to a report from The Daily Pilot.
Jackson's gray lifted pick-up truck collided with two other vehicles on 19th Street and Newport Boulevard, details the report. A Costa Mesa officer attempted to pull Jackson over but the fighter continued driving, hitting another car in what became a chase with local authorities around 1:13 p.m.
An anonymous witness told Sherdog.com that Jackson's car was on three wheels and a blown-out tire at one point during the pursuit.
Sherdog.com has learned that Jackson was en route to a training partner's residence and gave himself up to authorities outside his final destination. According to the report, a Costa Mesa police officer said the pursuit lasted five minutes.
A maestro with the sound byte, former Pride Fighting Championship star Jackson (27- has been one of the UFC's richer acquisitions in recent years. The extroverted 30-year-old smashed promotion favorite Chuck Liddell (Pictures) at UFC 71 to garner the light heavyweight title in May 2007. Jackson defended the crown once before dropping a hotly contested unanimous decision to Forrest Griffin (Pictures) at UFC 86 "Jackson vs. Griffin" in Las Vegas on July 5. Jackson and Griffin had previously traded verbal barbs as rival coaches on Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter 7" before meeting in the Octagon.
Photos released by TMZ.com show the former champion face down on the street outside the house. It appears Jackson was directed to exit his car at gunpoint.
Details of the arrest were not readily available. Multiple attempts to reach Jackson's manager, Juanito Ibarra, were unsuccessful.

| The most obvious question now is what (if anything) is Dana gonna do? He's the one that bailed him out, so obviously he's gonna have something to say, but Rampage is on film saying that Jesse Taylor wasn't being a good representative of the organization when he flipped out in Vegas. Now that the tables have turned on one of the big stars, you think Dana will deal out heavy punishment or just a slap on the wrist? |

Saw on a related article that Dana jumped a flight to CA to post the 25K bail for him. _________________ jt09 wrote:

they don't have atm machines in jail.
and yes, you can call a bail bondsman, but why do that when you can call someone to get you out, then pay them back? much easier. or, you call someone who goes and takes care of the bail bondsman for you. it's easier for someone on the outside to act on your behalf seeing as how they are free to move around, have access to phone and internet, etc. |

He couldn't call someone and say "hey, bring my checkbook to jail?"
Me, I couldn't come up with a check for 25K. But I would think that Rampage could.
Seems like Dana would find out real quick anyway...but that he called him first just enforces my idea that dana is becomming more of a Don King and micromanaging fighters...the UFC is starting to seem a little bit too contrived to me lately. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

it doesn't work that way.

how do you know he can't? you don't know what happened other than dana came to get him out of jail.

you follow the sport, so you might want to pay a bit more attention to how the ufc is run. it's a one stop shop. there's no managers, just dana. he rules w/ an iron fist and completely. why wouldn't jackson call him? last time i went to jail, i called my boss to get me out. she paid my bail and i paid her back the next day. simple as that. |

I said "But I would think that Rampage could." If he could come up with money himself, why involve your boss?
My point is, the fact that he called the league president, instead of a family member or friend, botheres me. It reinforces the idea I have that the UFC has become a huge power trip for Dana white, and he's more into controlling things and "owning" the fighters than he is the sport.
I have never been to jail, but if I was, I would not call my boss. Then again, I have a wife and close family and friends that live nearby. IT seems weird to call your boss to bail you out of jail. Especiall if they had to fly in? What business are you in that you would have the relationship with your boss that you would call them to bail you out of jail?
Besides, couldn't his lawyer pay his bail and then recoup the money? It just doesn't sit right with me. It's too "don king."
It sounds like Juanito Ibarra is Rampage's manager. Why not call her even? And if it's that DW and RJ are friends, isn't that a conflict of interest, to be friends with the fighters that are in the league you manage? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

cameraboy, well if your disenchanted with the UFC make sure to check out Affliction Banned this weekend. It's got a very nice card. Very excited for the Sylvia Emelianenko fight. If we are ever going to see a Coutur Emelianenko fight Affliction will be the ones to give it to us. I'm also looking forward to the Rothwell Arlovski fight. Rothwell is a prick and dumb as rocks. Used to roll with him and the guy is a spaz and frankly I can't really stand the dude. But yeah affliction should be huge and probably the first real challenge to the UFC. _________________ jt09 wrote:

cameraboy, I think there is a certain amount of "vouching" that the bondsman has to commit to. If you bail someone out of jail you are somewhat responsible for them, I believe. I could be wrong, I've never been to jail but that's what I remember hearing. Maybe someone else can expand.
You have to be pretty close to your boss for them to bail you out of jail. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

you are right brad. if you bail someone out, you are on the hook for the bond.
more of you need to go to jail. or at least watch dog the bounty hunter.
the judge sets a bond - in this case $25,000. that bond is to ensure the arrested appears in court, or he will forfeit the money.
many times the arrested party can't pay the bond, so they hire a bondsman. the bondsman agrees to pay the full bond for a percentage - say 20% (it varies). there has to be a co-signer so that if the arrested jumps bond (disappears into thin air instead of showing up in court), the bondsman has someone to go after for the money.
all the reports i am seeing are for jackson's bond at $25K, which seems ridiculously low to me for a high speed chase. I had a $5K bond for possesion of marijuana (first time) here in texas. considering there's likely more reasons for the chase - drunk? high? posession? never mind hitting several other cars....$25K seems light. |

I'll be checking out the Affliction fights for sure.
But so I'm clear...you CAN bail yourself out of jail, right? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |
