|
|
Hey guys,
This is my first post, you guys have built an awesome forum! Alot of info for noobs like me. Im shopping for a new boat and im looking at a Malibu VLX or maybe a CC SAN 210. I was just curious if anyone has one of these boats and what kind of gas usage you have? My dealers havent been real helpful and i get the feeling they would say anything to get me to buy a boat. Any info would be nice, not that it has any impact on my buying a boat just curious how much more gas im gonna use over my father-in-laws 17' bayliner with 135HP 4-cylinder
Thanks in advance |

| Im pretty sure the 210 would use less, but you might have to weight it more to produce the the same size wake as the vlx...I have a x-star which uses about 5 to 6 gallons a hour when weighted down about 1800Lbs...I dont have any idea on how much a bayliner would use per hour. |

| i think the bayliner uses 2 or 3 gallons an hour. If im in the 5-6 ball park that would make me happy. |

I think most wake boats on average use about 5-6 gallons per hour. A lot depends on the amount of weight/people you have in the boat. Our Supra launch 22 uses about 5 an hour with 4-5 people in the boat and no ballast weight. We were riding behind a little stingray with a volvo 3.0 and that thing just sipped gas. No comparison in performance though. All things considered, the gas consumption on the Supra is not bad. The boat is worlds above the smaller I/O we were riding behind.
Oh and just another thing to consider. I'm not sure what sort of engine options the boats you're looking at have, but I would recommend going for a premium engine option over the base engine. Another guy on our lake has the same boat as us but with the base engine and he was raving about the acceleration of our boat over his. We have the 340 horse option. Better for resale and you probably won't see much of a difference in fuel economy unless you're stepping up to a big block or something of the sort.
Good luck man! |

| Yeah the SAN 210 has a 390 HP option that i would like but the standard is 340which still doesnt seem bad but your right more gas consumption is worth the jump in performance. i guess thats really another topic in itself though, the difference between the 2 engines. |

| We were able to compare a 211 w/ a 343 and a 211 w/ a 390. The 390 was nice but we didn't feel it was worth the cost for us. If you're doing competition stuff it likely would though. I don't think I'd want the 275. |

TerryProII, thats good to know, im sure i will never be a competition level wakeboarder I might be wrong but i think the dealer had the 390 HP engine listed as a $4500 option and i dont think you can even get the 275 HP in the Super Air, not that i would want that anyway. Thanks for the input the more knowledge I have when I go get one the better off i will be! |

| I had a 2005 bayliner with the 135 engine and then switched to a 04 malibu with the 340 and I have to say my gas consumption doubled. I was spending about 75 a week in the bayliner and now about 150 a week in the malibu. Its well worth the extra money though cause build and performance wise its night and day if you can swing the extra gas money I would do it in a heartbeat. |

| Ridick makes a good point. We've only gone 500lbs over stock and I can easily believe that another 500 would begin to beg for the 390. |

yeah it seems like the 390hp is what the dealer has in stock on alot of their boats and i guess when your talking about 60,000+ $4,500 isnt that big of a deal |

arsenuts411, getting pulled behind the bayliner isnt wakeboarding, I wouldnt have bought a runabout like that. if nothing else i would prefer an older used wakeboard boat, but its my father-in-laws boat that i dont pay for so i cant complain plus it got me started riding and now im addicted So thats why im looking into getting my own boat now and like you said its worth the extra money hands down in every aspect |
