I need to replace the hand ratchet winch on the TI trailer for my 89 malibu sunsetter. The mechanism that decides whether or not you can ratchet in or let strap out has bent and become useless. Also.. I'm not sure if this happens with any bunk trailer but I actually cant ratchet the boat nose close at all. I can drag the boat forward a couple clicks but thats it.

I would like to accomplish getting a decent replacement hand ratchet (any model numbers more than welcome or even how strong of a ratchet I need) and would also like to get one I could actually - oh i dont know pull the boat forward with Laughing

Any help greatly appreciated lads.

well I found out the boat weighs roughly 2800 lbs, so I know i need a winch that can handle at LEAST that amount, but it must also have to be stronger to overcome the coefficient of static friction (it has to be stronger because its more than 2800 lbs of force to drag 2800 lbs across a floor). Anyone know if there is a known coefficient of static friction between a boat hull (fiberglass) and trailer bunk (carpeted wood?)

we just got a 1500lb one from west marine. It works great and was about $40 bucks. I You have to remember that you are pulling the boat up in water so it is much easier. Ours is a 89 prostar with a ti trailer.
