Wow! A friend of mine sent this to me and I had to pass it along...

To think how petty we are to complain about the tiniest things that happen to us on a day to day basis.

This is a true story!

A son asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?'. The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'.

They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to complete other marathons, the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his father, Dad, let's do the Ironman together.' To which, his father said 'Yes' too.

For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island.

Father and son went on to complete the race together.

You must have a qualifying event there every year, because The Ironman is held in HI every year.

http://www.ironmancda.com/

EDIT:

From Wikipedia

US Ironmans

* Ironman Arizona in Tempe, Arizona; added in 2005
* Ironman Coeur d'Alene in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, USA; added in 2003
* Ironman Florida in Panama City Beach, Florida; added in 1999
* Ironman Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky; added in 2007
* Ironman USA in Lake Placid, New York; added in 1999
* Ironman Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin; added in 2002

EDIT AGAIN:

I guess Swass was right. All of those are qualifying events
I assumed that because its a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26 mile run, that all events were the same, I guess the real deal is in Hawaii, however the events are the same...

The ironman world championships are held in hawaii but an ironman tirathalon can refer to any triathalon of the same distance. Technically the term ironman is trademarked so you can't legally refer to other triathalons as ironmans but people will know what you are talking about.

Adding another story about determination of Father & son.
Not quite the same level, but similar nonetheless.
