I feel very confident throwing my railey. I ride at 75ft and each time I throw it I land way outside the wake 6-7ft. I feel very comfortable in the air....enough to try a hoochie or s bend. The problem is when I come down I hit the water like a ton of bricks. I come down with alot of speed and when I hit the water it's like a train wreck...then I lose the rope no matter how tight of grip I have...any tips on how to make the landing a little easier?

Picture snapping the handle over your knee. It helps you pull into your centre of gravity.

i poted this same little "tutorial" in the trick tips forum...

i learned to do the raley by pulling my rope in as far as it would go (about 70 feet) and slowed the boat down to a speed that when i edged in hbard to do a raley, i would go wake to wake to cushion the landing for me to get used to the motion of the trick. the wakeskate is also a good learning tool as well...no weight of the board to pull down and you can get the mtion very easily. then just gradually lengthen up, speed up, and do them at full speed.

when it comes to the rope position, keep your arms bent a little bit the whole way through, not just all the way out. do not pull the rope back in, but push it down towards the water and bend your knees a little bit. this will automatically get you back level with the water to land. when it comes to popping the handle when you land, be sure not to land stiff legged. do some regular wake jumps to the flats to get comfortable landing hard and make sure to absorb the landing good. then toss up the raley.

let us know how it goes! hope i helped a little bit, and good luck!

Skwake, it is a lot different with the board, but only in your mind. it's the same trick and it's the same motions, just with a little added weight on your feet. do it the way i said...slow the boat and shorten the rope. you just have to throw it the same way as the wakeskate and do it without hesitation. it's a strange transition, but i had the same mindset. the way i learned it (which i actually did it all on my own...i'm self taught), i had the raley literally perfected in the same set i started them on the board. i was even doing krypts in that set without problem. it's really an easy trick and it's much more easier when you learn it gradually. if you're going to learn it, get in the habit of doing it right. with this method, it's a lot more forgiving and muscle memory develops fairly fast.

I like that idea of bringning the rope in. I have been putting off learning this trick for way too long.

Skwake, uunderstandably Laughing

twc, i did the same thing. i learned 3 mobes on my own before i ever really tried raleys. it's not worth the wait...you just need to go out and do it. once i landed it, i thought "wow, that's as easy asw everyone says!" Laughing

by the way everyone: do NOT go into the wake to throw a hoochie glide when you don't have a great hold on the handle. it may feel cool while you're superman-ing through the air, but the landing is just a tad rough. no injuries...i got right back up and did another one to redeem myself. just makes sure there's a good grip!!!

on a side note on this little story, there was a boat passing by here on norris and i heard a guy go "that actually looked pretty sweet!" i just laughed...i wish i had it on film though.

I LANDED IT! My buds in the boat said it was HUGE! Biggest I've gone ever. Although I rode it out it was still a train wreck when I landed....I was lucky to hold the rope. It was a relief but the next time it was back to the same old cannon ball landing.

I wish I would have got to check your replies before going but
the tip about not pulling the rope in but down explains exactly what I'm doing wrong. I always feel like the board is coming back WAAAYYY to fast. I should get some boarding in early next week....I'll report back.

GoBigWaxBigger, nice! good luck with it in the future. pushing the rope down is the huge key to doing this trick. it will feel a lot more smoother when you do this a few times and get used to it.

A friend of mine landed flat of him face, he looked pretty messed up for a few months. Not to mention that even lost a couple teeth.

In the cable they are much much easier than the boat, almost everyone pulls them very easy.
