Jeez, don't you hippie wackjob fruits have anything better to do? All that effort could have been better spent.
How many can see the irony here?

The panel says it's a fitting tribute to the 'mess' he'll leave behind
Supporters of the Presidential Memorial Commission have turned in their application to rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. The supporters are hoping to put the idea before San Francisco voters as a November ballot issue.
updated 6:19 p.m. CT, Mon., July. 7, 2008
SAN FRANCISCO - A California group submitted a proposal Monday to rename a sewage treatment plant after President Bush, calling the initiative a fitting tribute to the outgoing chief executive and the "mess" he'll leave behind.
The Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco wants to switch the name of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant to the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.
Supporters hoping to put the issue on the November ballot turned in more than 10,000 signatures to San Francisco election officials, organizer Brian McConnell said. The measure needs just over 7,000 valid names to qualify and McConnell expects to find out later this month whether they made it.
Proponents of the renaming plan see it as fitting tribute to a president they contend has plumbed the depths of incompetence.
"We think that it's important to remember our leaders in the right historical context," said McConnell, a member of the group that was formed after friends came up with the renaming idea.
"In President Bush's case, we think that we will be cleaning up a substantial mess for the next 10 or 20 years," he said. "The sewage treatment facility's job is to clean up a mess, so we think it's a fitting tribute."
The "mess," as supporters of the plan see it, includes the aftermath of the Iraq war and what they see as a neglect of domestic economic issues.
"What we're really doing is symbolizing the fact that as he leaves office, we'll begin the process of basically repairing damage and rebuilding our country's reputation," he said.
Some say the plan reeks
But others think the plan reeks.
The chairman of the San Francisco Republican Party has promised to fight the measure if it does make the ballot.
A call by The Associated Press to White House press officials was not returned. But Patrick Dorinson, a former spokesman for the California Republican Party now running a communications firm in Sacramento, called the measure "a horrible idea" that is "childish and it's stupid."
"This is why San Francisco is considered wacky," Dorinson said. "It makes me ashamed to be a San Franciscan if this is all they've got time to do."
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission spokesman Tony Winnicker says officials have bigger issues to deal with than the proposed initiative. He defended Oceanside as anything but a symbol of inadequacy.
"The plant that they're seeking to rename really offers extraordinary environmental benefits. Without it, raw sewage and storm water would flow into the bay and the oceans and the streets. That's not our understanding of what the authors of this initiative believe the current president has delivered," Winnicker said.
Still, he said, the commission is "trying to take it in stride and understand the humor behind it."

This is the kind of thing that really pisses me off. No respect and it's pathetic. The man is the god damn leader of our country. He's going to do things you don't like. Deal with it.
But to make an effort to belittle a president like this is uncalled for. It sends a terrible message to future generations. We have to stand behind our leaders and do our best to work together as a country to move this country forward.
F*cking hippies...STFU and go to work like everyone else so we can help get our economy back on track. Less blaming, more WORKING.

To me, it's more revealing of the character issues of the people who have supported this than anything else.
These folks need to take a deep breathe and smile.

Um, we live in a democracy... we don't have to do stuff if we don't agree with what our leader is doing and we can speak out as loudly and in as many different ways as we can think of about it. Its kind of what makes this country a pretty good place to live. There are plenty of other places you can go if you feel that everyone should blindly follow thier leader though.

edrex, Speaking out in disagreement and showing an utter disregard and lack of respect for our elected leaders or anything else by making personal permanent reference to feces are two different things in my book. It just shows a lack of maturity and an inability for these folks to contribute to society in a positive or constructive manner, IMHO.
Respectfully disagreeing is unfortunately not in the capacity of a lot of folks any longer.

Point is working together and working hard is what makes a country successful. I'm not saying blindly follow the leader, but maybe have some faith (they were elected and they probably have more info than you), and if you don't agree that's perfectly fine, at least question what's going on in a constructive, democratic way. Taking that course, we can come closer to finding a true solution.
A bunch of douchebags pulling a stunt like this accomplishes nothing. Getting names from a bunch of Starbucks employees on a list and trying to belittle our country's leader helps nothing. It simply helps to lower national pride and morale. Which are two things we need to help ourselves get us out of this rut we're in. If you're standing around pointing fingers, you're still just standing around.

I think it's pretty funny.
I'd think it's funny if they were doing it to Clinton or Carter too.
The last people deserving of respect, in my book, are politicians.
So long as you leave their kids and spouses alone.
In my opinion, naming a sewage plant after a politician is far less damaging than something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3plZq0p9L18
(fox's "terrorist fist jab" comment)
And I would feel that way had they said that about John and Cindy McCain.
One is a disresctfull and childish joke.
The other spreads a malicious and libleous lie that could influence an election.
Which one makes you more angry?

At least they didn't use a derogatory term like "baby mama" to refer to Michelle Obama. Oops.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvZEZL2LmA8
But surely they never would joke about assassinating Obama right?

I could care less what they say about any politician. What bothers me is all the fuss and effort put into it to do it.
Kind of like treehuggers setting fire to new home developments. Great now we have to cut down MORE trees to replace the houses you burned. Good job.

ScottyB_RochNY, does it really lower national pride and morale? Or does it say that we are in a sh|tty situation and making the best of it by having some fun at the expense of the guy who caused the sh|tty situation in the first place?

Now, that makes me a little angry. But, if they decided to name an abortion clinic or a sewage treatment plant or something like that after Obama, so be it.
Though I like him, I must never forget that he's a politician, and thus, by definition, a scumbag in a nice suit.
But a NEWS organization has a responsibility, ALL NEWS ORGANIZATIONS, have a responsibility to act ethically.
Can anyone, even the most staunch conservative, watch the "baby mama" graphic, or the "terrorist fist jab" report, and seriously still deny that Fox is very biased?
Anyhow, to sum up:
make fun of politicians: good
Do it on a news program: bad

AFAIC, all news organizations have a bias.
It's not the point here. The point is, is that this is completely un-constructive, a waste of tax payer dollars to implement or even have it on the ballot and history will likely tell that it is probably just as destructive to the US reputation from a global perspective.

EVERYTHING touched by human hands has a bias.
But Fox is worse than anyting else
that claims to be a news organization.
I think that belittling a leader
who has insulted and alienated so many countries and leaders
wont' really damage our global reputation.
Here's a timely example:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/2277298/President-George-Bush-%27Goodbye-from-the-world%27s-biggest-polluter%27.html
I say, if signing a stupid petition is what they like doing, let them try to circulate their petition around. It's no more or less constructive than wakeboarding or camping or playing tennis, IMO.
But I can see how people would be mad at the waste of taxpayer money. But are you also mad at the waste of taxpayer money involved in changing the name of something to honor a politician?

I think it is rather fitting. His track record dosn't really fit with naming a highway or dam after him. And as for telling the hippies to go back to work. Keep in mind that california is one of the largest economies in the world (tenth if compared against other countries) and probably doing a damn good job of keeping the nations current economy floating.
