|
|
Hey guys,
I recently purchased an '84 ski centurion. Ive been really happy with the boat, but the last time i had it out the engine died on me.
ran beautifully all day, then on our way back to the dock the engine shut off on the go. It turns over fine (batteries are fine) and sounds like it wants to start... but in the end it wont.
I know the checklist is compression, spark, fuel... and i have a feeling its a fuel problem... but im sure someone on here knows more about the engine symptoms than i do.
Im open to yalls advice!
Also, i want to learn about the engine and get more DIY about repairs / maintenance.... where can i find a owners manual / engine manual? its the 351 ford windsor, pleasurecraft etc...
I appreciate any input! |

First [engine cranks but wont start ] check for spark pull the coil wire or spark
plug wire connect a spark tester or hold the wire about 1/4" away from engine
metal surface [use insulated pliers] crank engine look for a strong steady spark
No spark check for voltage at coil + points, condenser and coil
Spark OK open the choke and spray some flammable carb cleaner in the
carb [2-3 sec spray] reconnect all wires crank engine .If it starts and runs
while spraying short blasts on carb cleaner in carb its probably fuel pump,
fuel filter, pinched line or out of gas. Try this and let me know what you find. |

| Probably a good time to check your fuel/water seperator.... these get dirty and need to be replaced. |
