So the wife and I are headed to Oregon for a week-long RV trip.

Trip Itinerary - Google Maps

We are going to hit the Rogue River (Gold Beach) for the jet boats, Tillamook to get our cheese on, and do some hot air ballooning south of Portland.

Anything else a "must see" while still keeping with a laid back type of vacation?

Also, I should mention we will have our dogs with us, which will limit some extra-vehicular activities.

chavez, Tillamook is a trip. Did a bachelor party right at the sand dunes there. Nice place.
Sounds like fun.

Portland is the strip capital of the US. When in Rome! Laughing

I'll be in hood river for the next two weeks. Getting my windsurfing fix for the summer. Tillamook and the OR coast is very scenic. Bend is also a cool town. I'm assuming you'll be stopping at Multnomah falls?

You can hit up the full sail brewery in town as well. Have beer tour then have lunch and what not on the balcony looking over the river.

chavez,
Once you hit the Oregon Coast. Keep your butt OUT OF MO's. Mo's sucks, and is very expensive for what it is. You will find much better chowder's, lunches elsewhere.

Newport Or.
Stop at the Rogue on the bayfront. GREAT pub type food, get yourself some dead guy.
Or if you want to impress the girlie.
Canyon Way Bookstore and restaurant.

They are open for lunch and dinner... BEST FOOD ON THE COAST. Be sure to save room for desert. They are funky... linens on the tables... buckets catching the rain. You can go in black tie or sweats and still fit in.

Pacific city.. ya gotta stop here

Bandon is beautiful, my 'rents have a house there.

If you like Sushi.. YuZens in Seal Rock.

Have fun. Be safe. GO HOME Wink

chavez, I am very jealous...any chance I can tag along...I am good with a video camera Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

HAHAHA....Have fun man. The drive along the Colombia River Gorge was awesome...Stop at the waterfalls along the way. We stopped at Multnomah falls...burn a few calories getting to the top.

Umm....Timberline is open for some ice snowboarding on Mt. Hood....we went in June and was pretty cool....just don't fall! HAHA

Portland has the most micro-brews per square mile than any city in the country....I would take advantage of that!

Check the Mt. Hood national forest

this was an awesome day hike...Forest Park in Portland

you sure you don't want me to tag along? Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

they don't do any work in the viewing areas on the weekends at the Cheese Factory currently. Kind of disappointing.

chavez,

Here is a place real close to Tillamook.

http://www.tillamookforestcenter.org/index.html

It has some cool exhibits and alot of info about the Tillamook Burn (4 huge forest fires in the 40's and 50's). Might be even more interesting considering the fires you are leaving.

DRAGON88, I actually thought about making Eugene a stop on the trip, but there is way too much to see/do in your state so for this trip it is a no go - we just don't have enough time. As it is, I have probably crammed too much in to this trip.

churchy, like far east/north parts of OR?

If I were around, I would offer you a place to crash, but I won't be home from Europe until mid-august. The only thing I would suggest is making sure you drink as mqny micro-brews as possible and, if you head through the north side of town on I-5, check out my old crazy-next-door-neighbor's art yard. He's somewhat of a local celebrity. 1805 N Sumner St.

Oh, and don't forget to pick some magic mushrooms in Tillamook. Best crop on the Oregon Coast! Laughing

Well, we are back. We had a really good time, and are unbelievably glad we missed out on the smoke and 110+ temps back home. It's only hazy now and a very bearable 92.

Anyhow, some highlights:

Random beach north of Eureka

WTF?

I don't see anything about "Now go home"

I'm sorry, but this is f'in cool looking

I have no idea why my dogs like to sh*t on the beach Confused

Someone please remind my wife that it is JULY

The dogs were trashed after this. Sand EVERYWHERE.

Hell yeah we got some cheese.

Windy as f*ck!

That's right. Cookies. Get your own damn cookies, these be MINE!

Best. Sign. Ever.

Little People!

Rogue Ales!

Hot air balloonin

Columbia River Gorge

Wahkeena Falls

Multnomah Falls (sorry bad light)

Oneonta Gorge FTMFW!

Next stop, FULL SAIL!

Quite possibly the cleanest "campground" ever!

Snow? In July?

Crater Lake awesomeness. So blue...

That's a long way for Weed

Back in Kali!

Mt Shasta

Yes!

HELL YES!

These guys must put out your blaze.

So, home we went with a beer full of fridge and lots of cool memories.

The end.

PS: Lake Shasta looked PATHETIC when we crossed over it. Adding insult to injury was the visible fires on the mountains/hills surrounding the lake.

Looks like a very good trip! Crater Lake is amazing isn't it? I've seen some recent pictures of Shasta and it is wild how much that lake is dropping. Glad you had a good time and made it back safe!

Looks like you guys did it right and had a good time. You still should have come riding with me thought my lake is literally a left off of highway 101. Laughing But I understand you guys had a packed schedule, definitely hit me up if you do it again.

Your pics make me want to go explore my area some more. Laughing

Looks like Oregon! I've been away in Europe for a month now and have a month left till I'm back. I haven't felt even slightly home sick until I saw those pictures. I can't wait to get out to the gorge when I get back. If you're wondering why I'm sitting in front of a computer right now and not out exploring, it's because it's about 150 thousand degrees in Rome right now and I can't handle it.

Glad you enjoyed your time up in my neck of the woods. Is that the Rogue Ale House in The Pearl District in Portland, or does it just look exactly like it?
