So I have been riding about 6 hours a week divided in 3 days. The more the day goes by the more my hip starts clicking and the more pain I have to endure. I am 25yo and 5'10 and 140lbs, I am pretty good shape. I was wondering if maybe this could be related to the stance of the board or I am just getting old Wink.

I tried moving the stance around a bit, but the pain is still there.

Have you been stretching before and after riding? If not:

Google "Hip flexors"
Then look for stretching exercises for the hip flexors.

will do

thanks.

My new board comes on thursday and I am pretty bummed out about having this much pain. Lets hope it gets better.

But does anyone know if this is known issue, or maybe its something I am doing wrong.

I am going to have to learn switch really good that way I can split the amount of pressure I put on my rear leg.

Yeah, I've got the same problem. I landed hard in the flats on a few hs grabs and my hip has been clicking for about a week now. It's taken me about 5 good sets on the treadmill to work out the soreness and get the clicking to stop.

Stretching is great advice. BTW.

Capix, at 25 your not getting old yet Laughing , but if your hip is clicking...you might want to get it X Rayed, there is something odd going on in there.

I think it was the landings, because I might be to ride well until I I start hitting some kickers. After that the day is down hill. On a brighter note, I bought the hyperlite premier and people describe its landing as pillow like landing, I hope that helps.

After Friday I am going to take it easy and prob stop riding until the pain is gone.

X-ray you say, that sounds like more money Laughing.

To each there own of course, but I rode a premier for 3 seasons, and after I blew me knee out, had it scoped, and had my ACL replaced, I tried to go back to my premier. A friend of mine convinced me to try a fish and a shane. The double concave hull on those two boards gave them, by far, softer landings than my premier. The only board I've ever ridden that had noticably harder landings than the premier was the Ronix Frontier.

Maybe you should demo a shane...

Whoever described a premiere as a soft landing board had no idea what they were talking about. That 3 stage, no spine rocker is one of the harder landing boards. Check out the CWB Marius, LF Watson or Shane for soft landing boards.

My bad, I am sorry, I meant the Imperial not the Premier. Leave to me to get those 2 names confused Laughing Wink

Actually 3 different people have told me the board has some of the softer landing they have ever experienced. I am hoping this stays true.

I was also told to fully widen my stance to relieve stress in the back foot. I will try it out and see how it workds.

Do you think you are riding rear foot heavy? That will put stress on your entire body as you are increasing the amount of drag. If you think you may be riding too rear foot heavy, try to shift about 90% of your weight to your front foot when you are just cruising and see if you feel any difference. The board should feel lighter and faster. That will also help you form better riding habits of balancing your weight.

Pillow-like landings is hilarious to me...Go outside and put a pillow down on the ground, then jump off the hood of your car onto it Wink

Makes no difference, landing in the flats just plain ol' hurts Razz

I will say, however, that the marius and similarly-shaped boards do definitely soften the blow.

Capix,

Get an X-ray! I developed a clicking in my hip in 2005 and had to have surgery in December 2007. The condition that I have is called Femoro Acetabular Impingement syndrome. The head of your femur can develop something similar to a bone spur that can damage your cartilage of your labrum. Symptoms include: lower back pain on the side of the affected hip, soreness and swelling in the groin and hip flexor, clicking of the hip.
It is easily diagnosed through an Xray so I would highly reccomend getting one to rule it out.
I am 24 and am the proud owner of an arthritic hip. Do not ignore pain! An imbalance in one part of your body can damage other parts.

A narrower stance reduces shearing force on the hips. knees, and ankles. Riding all the way out looks cool, but it is a ridiculous trend that perpetuates joint injury.

The hit is doing much better.

On another note, UPS Bubb Rubb up and my board is delayed, so it looks like I am stuck with my old board for 4th of July. Who knows when I will get it, with hollyday weekend coming up.
