Trying to decide what to put in the can's in the tower of my Supra. It came stock with 4 Kenwood 6.5" coax's in 4 separate can's. I wanna keep the stock cans, so I'll need either a coaxially mounted tweeter component set or a coax. I've been thinking about the Wet Sounds XS-650 but for that money, there's a lot more out there so it makes the decision a little harder. I've got MB Quart in my truck and have had their speakers in several cars over the years.

The WS's are $199/pair so I'm looking to spend somewhere in the $400 range for just the tower speakers. They'll be powered by a JL Audio 300/2 amp.

I'm also gonna pickup the WS eq/preamp that they just put out. Anyone have experience with this?

Wish I could. I'm in Paducah and there's no one close that sells those.

I got the Wet Sounds speakers from TN Tige. Wanted to support local, even though they're 2 hours away.

And yeah, they're LOUD! Had to cut the lips on the inside of the cans but the grill diameter was perfect to the diameter of the can.

I did some testing of the WS XS-650's vs MB Quart RCK 116's vs Kicker KS60's and the Wet Sounds blew the others away. The MB quarts sounded Damp and thuddy compared to the Wetsounds, whilst the Kickers were a close second - The Wet Sounds just had that bit more bass, bit more SPL per watt of input, held there' sound quality with more power, and the grills seem far more solid than the Kicker grills. The MB quarts grills were fine but I know they rust after a while.

After my testing I found it hard to believe that anyone ever thought that using those MB quart units (that seemed so popular only 3-4 years ago) was a good idea.

At this moment in time, I don't know of a better marine grade 6.5 speaker than the Wet Sounds... truly incredible!

I can attest to that. I've got MB Quart Reference in my truck and there's just no comparison to the Wet Sounds. They're a little harsh at higher levels when you're in the boat, but behind it is a different story.

I have had MB Quartz in several of my cars, great sound for the money. I've had Boston Acoustics SPZ (hate them) and Focal Utopia which make MBQ sound bad.

But when you hit the water you can throw all that out the window. After hearing almost every high-end speaker on the market, Wet Sound became the obvious choice. They are the Focal Utopia of the water IMHO. I have the 3-some package supported with JL amps and its loud and clear at all volumes, i.e. loud, louder, and "I hope everyone else on the lake likes my music loud".

I'm currently considering 2 more Pro 80's to face at angles toward the back since we spend so much time outside the wake, and maybe 2 more facing forward and down to cover the front half of my boat. I have plenty of amps and batteries already in place to make it a quick bolt-on.

Get the Wet Sounds for sure, nothing compares!

Regards,

Dusty
