There have been a couple of discussions on here about electric boats with both seeming to end with implying that it's not practical. Ran across this when looking at it this morning:

Accurate summation? Electric boats a probability? |

You're probably right. But, IMO, the ONLY reason it won't happen as soon as next year is because so many of us are willing to continue paying $7 or $8/gallon (or more) to feed our expensive boats. |

According to Wakeworld (and other sources) Epic has something in the works
| Quote: | | I was also told Epic has something in the works...3 electric motors with 400 ft lbs of torque. Not sure if it's true, but that's what I was told. |

Less than 15 years IMO. Most marinas have outlets at the slips. Charge overnight or during lunch break, etc. We ballast these things anyway so who cares about battery weight. There is less resistance to a prop than tires on the road so consumption of charge would be fairly manageable.
I would LOVE to own an electric boat. The power cells could be evenly distributed thruought the hull to keep away from the heavy motor in the back symptom we face currently. Getting them wet doesn't see like it should be that big of a concern. I've seen trucks under water at the ramp with the headlights still on and there are no provisions on them for wet operation.
The real challenge (aside from the obvious cost) would be floatation.
Another advantage: lots of stereo time in the party cove!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ http://www.youtube.com/greasemonkeytv |

Not just Epic. I'd say many of them have experimented with this. And other power solutions. |
