So, my wife did a lot of research and settled in on the Canon S5IS as our new camera. The camera is pretty slick and we are starting to get used to all the cool features. One thing we really want to do with it is take stills and videos of wakeboarding. We would like to be able to pull stills from the videos and edit them. Can anyone recommend video editing software that does the basics, but isn't too expensive?

Also, any tips or techniques on using a camera like this? I guess this camera falls into the category of Super Zoom.

Thanks!

I got an S5 a while back and have really enjoyed it. I've only used the video feature a couple times. You can pull stills from the videos but they're not great. 800x600 or 640x480, I don't remember which. The quality of those resolutions is good but it is still a small resolution.

You can snap full quality stills while you're recording though.

For just getting into video editing start off with Windows Movie Maker. Version 2 is much better than 1 but I haven't used it since version 2.

Cool, thanks. Yeah, I like the feature where we can snap the full quality stills while we are recording. I'll check out the software.
