hi people.. I was wondering if you ride with the fins on the board, or without... which one is preferable and why?
is it without fins still possible to take a strong edge and do some nice tricks like the tantrum, the 360, ...

If you slip out you aren't edging properly. The grip should come from the board not the fins. People that tell you you can't carve properly without fins have usually got their weight too far over their back foot.

if you need to ask then you should probably keep the fins on for a little longer, then take them off, or just take them off and see how it feels

Not really. The aim in the end is to just do it. Riding with or without fins is simply a preferance. Most people just prefer to ride without them. It creates a looser feel, helps ensure proper form (you can't really get away with bad form/technique without the fins because you'll have more of a tendancy to slip out). I think no fins is more forgiving because it allows you to sketch out iffy landings. There's really trade offs to both, but it all comes down to personal preferance.

I like the fins cause it helps my 100 pound body keep tracking and create enough speed. without the fins I have trouble getting a strong enough progressive edge because after a certain speed i just cant go quite fast enough.

If you have good edging technique when cutting into the wake, your fins shouldn't even be in the water, so they really don't make too big of a difference on your progressive edge.

I personally ride finless because it gives me more room for error in spins

I'm thinking he means that he can spin earlier if he doesn't typically wait long enough and you can also come up a bit short and not to deal with fins catching you giving you that nasty edge crash. However, you will slip out more.

Basically, it gives the board a looser feel in the water, which means that surface spins come much easier, and there is less of a risk of catching an edge.

Also, when landing spins, the board does not track as heavily in a certain direction than it would with fins, so there is a bit more time to correct the direction of the board while landing

let me know if that makes sense,

Zach

Thx everybody!!!
I tried it without fins today and in the beginning it was a little weird, but at the end it went really good and a managed to land my 360 without having to worry of falling because the fins would catch water..

I loved it!!
