Hey guys,
I cracked my CWB absolute platinum. I've accepted it as a fact of life, so lets not get into cwb vs lf vs hl.. whatever. CWB stood by their product and got me a new one, props to them. However, I think I can fix the old one.
the pics are too big to be attached, but I'm planning on injecting epoxy into the slit in the side, waiting for that to dry (it will bind the core back to the base) roughing up the bottom of the board and putting a fiberglass patch over the whole midsection of the base.
Anybody done this before? I'll attach some pics of the repair if its successful, planning on using this as my slider board when (hopefully) the cable park opens up in cincy (www.wakenation.com). _________________ ---- Will

Might work, but a lot of it depends on where the crack is. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

I tried this on my J-star Lyman. The tip cracked horizontally across the board about 4 inches from the end. About a 4 inch strip of base material ripped off the full length of the bottom. I put 1 layer of fiberglass on the strip and then about 4 layers over the end where the crack was. After 1 ride the long strip was still intact but the end piece over the crack has already started to come apart. I can tell it will rip another long strip of base off the next time I ride it. After all the time and effort it took I wouldn't bother doing it again.
It seemed to stick OK to the foam where the base material ripped off, but just roughing the base up around the crack wasn't enough and it just came back off. Structurally wise I think it would have been strong enough. It just wouldn't stick. |
