Hi, i'm a 100% noob to this but hell yeah it's fun.

I went wakeboarding for the first time last week and didn't manage to get up, after a wee think i went back yesterday and got up first time. Now i'm up, i want to progress as fast as possible.

I'm a snowboarding instructor and love my winter sports, i can't beleive i haven't thought about wakeboarding till now. Anway, now for the questions.

Heel edge and toe edge -
I ride regular and found going accross the wake on my heels very easy, toes was a totally different issue. Are there any tips for getting accross easier on my toes? I felt like i almost needed to turn my back on the boat to get accross even a tiny bit.

Sore back -
I also found that after 10 to 15 minutes on the water my lower back was really painful..!! Any suggestions why that may be?

Stance -
I'm using my mates board and the stance is duck, is this correct for begginers?

Any help appreciated.
Cheers dudes and dudets..!!

B.

The toeside edging position is a bit awkward at first, but you get used to it pretty quick.

Keep your chest up and your back straight. I would guess that you were bending at the waist, this would also make toeside edging more awkward.

It's just like snowboarding, all preference. Most people I know of ride a little bit ducked (I think I ride at 12* or so) Personally I think it's best to ride with both bindings ducked out the same amount, (for beginners at least.) it will help immensely when learning switch.

On that note, I would probably start learning switch right now, just practice getting up switch stance and get a feel for riding around switch. It may feel really awkward at first, but it will probably feel less awkward now than it will feel when you get settled into your HS and TS edging...

Oh, and welcome to the site.
Very Happy

One other thing on the toeside edging that has really helped me is to try to glue the rope handle to the front hip. It is a lot easier to put a little more weight on the front side of the board when you do that.

What's the best kind of glue to use? Mr. Green

Ah, makes sense...!!!

Thanks for the tips, toe edge and bring the hands to the hips makes sense, I watched a few you tube vids and everyone does that on toe edge.

Also i was very aware that i was bending over too much, i was trying to correct that.

I take it trick wise, ollie is the first stop?!

Man I can't wait to get back out there this weekend Smile

Welcome to the wonderful world of wakeboarding. Another beginner trick that seemed to up my confidence when I first started was learning how to do surface 180's. If nothing else, they will help to get you used to avoiding face plants. Those and ollies will really help with board control too. Good luck.

Its always awesome to see someone first getting into the sport and to be so excited about it. As far as your progression goes... just get out there and have fun with it. Make sure you're really comfortable riding and edging/crossing the wake before doing much of anything else and like others have said, start learning switch now. Once your comfortable you could start trying some simple surface tricks and move on from there. Best of luck with your riding!

For those toeside wake crosses let go of your back hand. It will help you center your body on edge and make sure it is a smooth cut in. DON'T slow right before the wake.
