|
|
yeh so do you think it would be good having
an electric winch if you have a backyard setup??
it would be a compound connected d.c motor to get
both torque and speed but i still need to see if it is
capable running off 240v to pull a rider.
I am thinking of making one in tafe, any ideas?
good idea?, bad idea? _________________

do you think that those never ending lap pools have enough power to keep you up if you tie your rope to the bar at the end?
just throwin that idea out there, could help with surface tricks _________________ Lanexa VA |

NKCrider, I doubt those pools are able to go over the equivalent of 5mph. I don't think it would be enough to keep you out of the water. I've thought about it.
How awesome would a backyard setup be? I've debated trying to link my pool to one but it's just not feasible. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Do you already have the motor? Will it be cheaper to build than a gas one? If not I personally would rather have the portability of a gas one. Even for a backyard setup, you may want to take it places occassionally. Making it run on 120 would increase the portability over 240. Also electric motors can get extremely heavy.
I like the idea of the continous pool, that would be sweet. Those continous waves probably produce enough speed. |

yea i been thinking about those pools. if you could mod the impeller in it, just think of the posibilites
i wonder if you i can go to the local pool shop & ask them if i could demo it by tryin to board it lol _________________ Lanexa VA |

years ago I remember seeing some guys playing on a knee board in a swift section of the Hiwassee river. There is no way the water was moving 20mph through that section, but they were getting on plane. I have since wanted to do that on a wakeboard or skate.
You probably would better off using there pump, but in a narrower shallower pool to generate more velocity. |

ok my latest idea lol inspired by wakeskaters skating infront of a drain holding onto a rope with water pumping towards them... i think backyard set-ups are tha bomb.
basically water is pumped DOWN a slope (oppasite to wave ride, could even have a reversing switch to make it a wave rider) trampoline type base, bouncy to land on but tear resistant... padded bottom and sides, rope to hold
onto and ride, yeh water is caught in small pool at bottom and pumped back up to the top.... would b way more efficiant than a wave rider. _________________

the beer fridge is the most important part!!!
Electric winch is doable, you can get all the parts from an electric scooter, 1KW motor should be powerful enough. _________________ Got Steez? |

The motors on the Red Bull WakeLab I think are electric. Not sure how larger or what type but they were electric.

wake_carver, that's a pretty sweet Idea. It would really limit the amount of pump you would need. Those flowrider pumps are ridiculous.
If you made it wide enough you could put halfpipes on the sides or humps to jump in the middle.
You'd have to extend the base like crazy so when you fell you would land in water or something. Wouldn't want to hit the ground at that much incline haha. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Actually, now that I think about it, I could build that with my pool as the water-source and fall back. It wouldn't be very wide.. maybe only 6-10 feet wide. Rent 2-3 of those submersible pumps from home depot that pump out some crazy number like 5000 gph.
The only problem would be the surface material. If you had enough water you wouldn't need for it to be springy, but you would want it soft to land on. That foam can get esspensive.
Everything minus the foam I could probably pick up for a few hundred bucks. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

It's not a bad idea, it would need to be built more like a cable system thou, the winch idea could work but the big problem is that it may have the electric motor/electricty contact water which is never a solid idea. We have seen numerous winch's that have been pulled into the water ect.. There are def. some ideas that could be thrown around to build a elec one. When i worked with conveyor systems for farms they used to used elec. motors that had some serious pull in them.
I like the back yard setup sketchs |

Has anyone ever heard of or considered using an electric wench from say, a four-wheeler, as a tow point where the rope length could be adjusted on the fly for each rider so the length suits their preferred speed and tastes? I've just been tossing the idea around, and I'm very close to saying wth, lets just do it. It would be perfect for a pool to lake ride. You could have the extra length needed to reach inland and then "reel them in" and ride at your normal distance behind the boat. I'll feel dumb if this is already a common thing. _________________

i know this is really old amd all, but had my own idea for the wake ramp. build an 8 foot high ramp out of wood, then seal it since water's running down it. get a small square tramp maybe 10 foot or so dig it into the ground with 3' or so under it, get some stiffer springs for it and then get a wrestling matt and put it on the top of the tramp, seal the front to the bottom of the water rmp then curl up the edges so there around 6in high then have the drain on t he back running to a pump or two liek this : http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200402583_200402583
on second thought you could probably just run a tarp over the tramp or just the matt on the ground |

i know this is a bit of an old thread, but i have a 'cozy' sized pond in my back yard, and this idea kinda intrigues me. are there any actual photo examples of winching setups? i would love to do something like this |
