Good idea until your boat sinks. The reason water is used for fat sacs is because water remains neutral in water. With sand it will just keep sinking.

Go for it then. Can't be worse than lead weights.

I bought a 55 gallon drum for 10 dollars and a 25 dollar aerator pump and a couple of wheel chocks from walmart and made a removable ballast for the back of my boat, at about 8.5 pounds/gallon thats about 450 pounds... and I put both of my 150 lb phat buddies, (yes you read right, phat buddies) in the bow to even it out a little.. worked out pretty well but I went from averaging about 3.7 gph of gas to about 5.9 gph. It was a nice wake even behind my outback tho.

I bought 6 (50lb)bags of sand initially from Lowes and covered them in trash bags so they didnt get wet or ripped. They helped. but I would advise checking Ebay for fat sacs...I got a pair pretty cheap on there brand new. Lowes has a 90 day return policy too, so a week or so later, I took the sand back to them since my childs "sandbox" didn't need those last 6 bags I bought hehe....

Sand bags wrapped tight in ductape, makes em nice little bricks. Pretty frickin ghetto, but super cheap.

Exactly what I did today, bought 300 pounds of sand bags to stuff in the bow and see how the wake is before I sink (no pun intended) money into fatsacs. Gonna wrap them in garbage bags and duct tape them. Bow sits high enough on my Cobalt and not in big water so not worried about water over the bow. I will return them after a few test runs.

you should be able to tell a difference with the weight. Remember to play with the trim too and that will clean it up and give it a little ramp-iness. I ended up getting 2 v drive twin fat sacs and run 350 in the bow and 350 in the locker and it helps out alot. Picked em up on ebay pretty good price...thinking about adding another 300 lbs but not sure yet...
