Hey whats up everyone. My names Andrew and im new to this forum. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if O'brien in general makes a good wakeboard. I hear tons about hyperlite, Ronix, LF and so on but I dont really hear much about O'brien. Im just wondering if it would be worth the money to buy one or go with a more popular brand. Thanks for any advice

Andrew,

I just asked a similar question a few days ago and I got some good advice.

The advice was to go to my local rideshop and demo the boards of my interest.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Ronix is a offspring of O'brien.

Wakin Dirrty
I ride a 07 OB Player 138, I love this board. this is my second board.
my first board was a Blindside Stingray 142.
I love the 3-stage rocker and wider mid-section. Landings are smooth, the 8 molded fins are great allow the board to track well but you are able to cut the board loose for surface spins.
if you get a chance try one out.

Thanks for all your advice. I guess I should have been a little more clear. Im not looking to get a O'brien board I was just wondering if it was an off brand board if you know what I mean or do they have a history of making good quality boards. Im not trying to offend anyone here if that sounds wrong. My wife wants a board for her birthday and ive been thinking of getting her a Obrien vixon because its less expensive and who knows if this is gonna be a one time deal or what not with her but if its not worth wasting my money I would rather just get the more expensive board. I also just wanted some other opinions to because I know when I go to the local shops they are going to tell us what we want to hear and I just wanted more opinions. Sorry if I wasnt clear. Thanks again for the help.

Wakin Dirrty, take your pick: Obrien, Liquid Force, Hyperlite, Ronix, Gator, CWB, Slingshot, Byerly...these are all reputable manufacturers of quality wakeboarding gear. Try to steer clear of the cheapo marine supply store boards like Hydroslide and Free Motion.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. But that doesn't mean there aren't lots of great deals to be had on good gear.

Thanks alot guys for all the help. I definatley believe in you get what you pay for but im just hoping a 200$ will be as good for a beginner then a 300-400 dollar board.
