|
|
| I was just wondering which boat, set up correctly, will throw a better wake seeing that the pro air is an inboard and the ss a v-drive. Is there a difference in the hulls? Any help would be great. Also is there a huge difference in the interiors of the two boats?

Yes, the hulls are different. The '99 Air has the TWC (Total wake control) hull that was produced for that boat, for a few years. Some consider it a flop or bad design, but I've ridden in/behind and driven that boat and I for one like it. I think the 96 SS has the same, or very similar, hull as the modern day 210 or Super Air Nautique. The interiors are different in that the ss, being a V-Drive, has the wrap around seating, where as the DD Pro Air, is more your conventional ski boat layout.
I've ridden behind an '03 210 (SAN) and am pretty sure that is one of the sickest wakes I've ridden. It had a good amount of weight in it. The 99 Air I ride in from time to time also puts out a nice wake IMO, but I've never been in it with anything other than factory ballast and a bunch of people. I'm pretty sure the dash layout is identical or very similar and I believe they both will have the GT-40 motor. Both are nice boats, I'd take either.....

| i'd get the ss and throw a tower on it if you are using the boat only for boarding. if you ski, i'd get the pro air. the d-drive will throw a good wake at boarding speeds and it will flatten out better at skiing speeds. the v-drive ss will throw a great boarding wake but it's ski wake won't be as good.

'good' is a relative term. Since I've never been in the SAN hull without weight or little weight, I can't give an informed opinion. But I can tell you that the Pro Air TWC hull does not produce a 'good' slalom wake, even at slalom speeds. Which is uncharacteristic of a direct drive, but the hull is the reason.

| sorry, let me clarify what "good" wake means to me , which boat would require less weight to create a wake comparable to a '02 SAN. thanks for all replies.

Ok,the super sport is the same hull as the SAN!! The pro air will use less weight just becuase it is a smaller boat. I really like the arena seating in the SS and most of the weight will be hidden. But to answer your question, the super sport will throw out a better wake when weighted properly. The SS will be my next boat as soon as I sell my nauti 2001!!!

| This is not a close comparison. Super Sport is by far better. As said above: It is a Super Air Hull. The 99 is the worst hull by Correct Craft for Any Pro Air Nautique. My .02. A concept mistake. Good Idea if people only use factory ballast.

lol "worst hull by correct craft for any pro air " that is a good one. i own one and i love it but of course i'm not a pro, but i play one on t.v. . i guess i would have to ask about the hours on both and what kind of shape the 96 is in and the 99. but you will enjoy the interior lay out of the v drive better if you have alot of boards and people in the boat. but as far as adding weight you have to know where too add your weight. on the 99 proair put one in the ski locker and one 500lb in the back and if you really want more weight than that put two side sacks beside the eng. in the 99 pro air. and as far as the 96ss if you ski at all the would be the boat to get, as far as the size and shape of the wake the pro air will throw a bigger wake if weighted right. on this oppion i got from the pro's i rode with dean leavelle, shaun murray, gerry nunn, parks bonifay, josh sanders, and they all love the 99 pro air. in fact shaun was sponsored by sanger i beleave and he used the guy next doors pro air because in his own words " the best boat he had ever rode behind". but i'm not going to get into a pissing contest, if i were you i would drive and ride behind both of them and deciude for your self. and they are testing the t.w.c on the new v drives so don't be surprized the see them back next year or so . but that is just my 000.02 and everyone can have there own oppion but i would highly recommend that you take them both out and then you can have and educated oppion and not just alot of hear say

Thanks bud, that wake is from my bayliner. Ski Supreme, Sanger & Centurion are all distributed by the same company, it adds to the confusion.

I just bought a 1995 Nautique Super Sport. I love it. Buy the v-drive! There is a ton of storage in the back and under every seat in the cockpit area. Just to see what I could fit into the side compartments by the engine I was able to fit a 2003 Hyperlite 140 Premier. I took that out and I was able to fit a 2003 Hydroslide in there!! I know you will probably have sacks back there but this just gives you an idea. I would like to put 550's on either side of the engine and a 600 lb'r in the ski locker..............have fun

Thanks BIGMAC!
Todd Armstrong,
The Pro Air is no longer made. It used the TWC (Total Wake Control) hull. The last model year was 2002. All the direct drive boats now use the TSC2 hull.
CC has changed the name back to Super Air Nautique 210. It will be interesting to see the 04' model to see if they keep the 210 at the end of it though.

That was an interesting conversation.
I personally own a 2002 Team Edition.
I have a friend that owns a 1999 Pro Air.
I have another friend that owns and old 2001 hull 1985 Nautique.
They will all tell you the same thing, the v-drive has the best layout and throws the best wake. The OLD Nautique comes in second if properly weighted then the Pro Air. The guy with the Pro Air likes his boat and we still ride behind it all the time. When it's weighted it right it produces a great wake but he will be the first to tell you he would like a new boat.
