Hi there.... newbie here.

My brother and I just got a boat (a Bayliner 17ft with a 85hp outboard)... I know it's not the best boat for wakeboard, but I think it's a good start.

What should we need to get started? I mean we got nothing besides the boat right now....

Do we really need a tower or a pole for the rope? What are all the options to attach the rope to? Can we attached directly to the boat hull?

We weight about 170lbs will a 135 board be ok for both of us (beginners)? How about somebody that weighs ~130lbs?

Any input will be appreciated!!

Thanks.

I am going into my second season with a Bayliner 19' with the 135 I/O. It worked well for us last year and it should do well this year. We got some ballast bags and we'll see how that helps. We don't have a tower either.

Does your boat have a ski hook to attach the rope to? I've seen some folks that have outboards that have the short pole, tripod type set up right in front on the motor, which probably works pretty good.

Get yourself a good rope set up and good quality board(s). My weight fluctuates between 175 and 185 and I ride a 136 board. I think that size would work good for you.

Check out the beginner's sticky in this newbie section and you'll find a lot of good information there.

Thanks for the reply!

The lady we got the boat from said she used it for ski... but I haven't really seen any proper place to attach the rope. I forgot to ask how she did it...

I think I will look into poles then.

Any links on how to install poles in outboards? or maybe DIY guides?

Thanks

I'm not sure on that. Look around online at boating supply type websites and you'll find something. The other thing you might do is to contact your nearest Bayliner dealer to find out more info.
