I'm in the process of trying to buy me a boat and have found several I like but was wondering how much motor I need to really pull a wakeboarder up. I want about an 18 foot boat and most of those come with 3.0 liter motors but is that enough to pull somebody with ballast and 4 or 5 people in the boat or is it out of the question and do I need to only look at a boat I can upgrade to a 4.3 or bigger.

Dane, What brand of boat is that it is sweet.

I have a Glastron GX 185 with the 4.3l Volvo Penta, if you start adding ballast for a 3.0l your making a small engine work harder

And in response to the 3.0L question. You will see lots of 3.0's for sale and they are a lot cheaper too. Most people who buy a boat like this usually sell them after a year or sooner. Once they realize it takes a long time to get the boat up on plane, just the boat, and even worse pulling a wakeboarder, or a couple of tubes, they sell them. Its totally worth the extra money going out and buying at least a 4.3, even moreso, if you are adding ballast into the boats. The boats that we sell, the smallest engine we put in the boats is s 4.3, 190Hp. We are you from, maybe I could hook-you up with a sweet deal? www.rvmarine.ca be sure to check us out.

Thanks for the info. I will definatly look to get a 4.3L boat instead. I didn't figure that the 3.0L had enough but I have not ever had a chane to ride in one to find out. Dane thanks for the offer but you are a little to far away to help me out here in Arkansas.

our 3.0 in the sea ray would pull me up just fine...but thats with only bout 4 ppl and never n e extra ballast...whenever my dad would ski it put rite much strain on it...but that motor was a pos, it blew 3 head gaskets over the time we had it which was only a couple of years...definitely go with the 4.3

I am not trying to call down your boat at all grady, I was just trying to inform mossimo to make a right purchase. This 19' Boat is our most popular buy, the way this thing looks, the lines of this boat, and the way this thing performs.
