I am looking at a 2000 PAN tomorrow and was wondering if $29,000 for one with 105hrs, ballast, tower and all the goodies is a good price. I live in California and it seems like prices are higher out here so take that into consideration. I looked at the post below about Nautique SS or PAN and it seemed like there was alot of PAN bashin going on. Is this a good boat or is it somthing to stay away from. I can't afford a SAN so thats not an option. I am coming from a 1991 Prostar 190 so it won't take much of a wake to impress me.

I've been very happy with my Pro Air (2000) and have had many people ride behind it weighted and unweighted and all seem very pleased with the wakes. My buddy has a Wakesetter (2001) and we can both pull the same moves behind either boat when weighted equally. I really enjoy the direct drive handling for ease of driving and also for slalom.

People seem to get real concerned when a company changes its product after a couple years - think they royally screwed up. Perhaps they're changing with the market, realizing the V-drive is what's becoming more popular and rather than offer so many choices which can confuse a customer (hull bottom choices), they simplify their technical differences in offerings. Ok, I'll stop rambling. I've been quite happy, and if you think a V-drive will be too much $$$, then I'd bet the direct drive will serve you well.

I'd say you can get a better boat for around the same price. I've seen X-Stars and Wakesetters from around the same vintage for that price. Have you checked flipsell.com?

Focker,
That is a nice looking boat. You must decide if you want a v-drive or direct drive. If you cannot afford a SAN what about finding a used Super Sport? Same boat, less tower and auto ballast. I got my 1995 Super Sport for way less than that price, of course it is 5 years older than that Pro you are looking at...........
Whichever you choose, you will have fun Very Happy

Sounds like a good deal. A prostar can throw a wake about the same with enough ballast... Josh R has a good point, also.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am going to go ahead and take the boat for a test drive today and give the guy an offer that I feel comfortable spending on a direct drive. The thing about it is I have always wanted a newer air nautique and this one actulley seems like a decent deal compared to some of the other air's for sale that are going for like 26,000-30,000 with like 500hrs on them. Is that because the plain Air nautique is better?

Thanks

Is it just me or is that top mounted outside the tower? How does it open up w/o folding down the tower first?

Troy, I think the top half of the FCT folds forward.

But, that is a nice looking ride and you should be happy with the wake.

Why oh Why don't people maintain their teaks, it makes a boat look 10x better.
Sand that bia and slap some oil on it, it takes 45 minutes.

For close to that money you should be able to get an excellent vdrive. If you wakeboard mostly, that is what I would advise.

Ride behind it first. I have ridden behind one with factory ballast and one without and the wake was tiny on both. No fun. Time to break out the ski. It looks like a nice boat but I guarantee that it you have ever ridden a big wake you will not buy this boat. I would wait and find something worth riding behind.

Yea great graphics. That giant "N" took a lot of creativity and some real precision gel coat work.

Jealousy..yea that's it. How does this sound?
1.Open engine cover.
2. Reach hand into hot engine compartment to open valve for pump.
3. Repeat step #2 for other side.
4. Close engine box.
5 Turn on ballast pumps and watch gauge for 8-10 min.
6. Turn off pumps.
7. Put on life jacket and strap on board.
8. Jump into water and try to ride.
9 Start crying when you see that after all that you still have no wake.

Yea I am jealous.

I have ridden behind a Pro Air that was heavily weighted and it threw a good wake, a fairly large ramp but it was pretty soft. The boat was weighted with about 2k ballast not including the 6 people in it. Also the stock ballast was not filled, becasue it was broken, good thing the waterlin ein the rear was only a few inches from the rubrail.

Nice boat, nice wake (big but soft heavily weighted) Get a V-drive Sanger for the same money and you will get twice the wake. Shocked

I didn't get it! Before I went and looked at it I called the local Nautique dealer and asked what they thought of the boat, his reply was direct and to the point. He said "Don't buy it!" His reasoning was that for the money I could buy a V-drive and I would be way happier with it, he also said that the resale on PAN's suck because the hull really isn't all that good and everyone is starting to relize it. I am not pulling anyones leg here, this is what the dealer said and I am going to take his word for it and look for a V-drive.

Thanks for everyones input

I looked at a 2000 X-5, boat looked all bad ass and mean with competition this and that. The guy weighted it down with a fat seat, two side sacs and a 500 pounder on top of the fat seat. Boy, was I disappointed. It was no bigger than my buddie's 19' Lund (fishing boat) with two 40 gallon trash cans behind it. Make sure you get something with a big wake.
