Hey, I'm looking to buy a new wakeboard. I'm currently on an older O'brien that I learned on but I've kind of outgrown it skill wise I think. I'm about 6'2", 215, and am right around an intermediate level right now I'd say, but I'm gonna be doing a lot of wakeboarding over the summer as I'll finally have time and a driver consistently. What do you guys suggest I look at that will last me. I don't wanna outgrow another board because I bought more of a beginner board, but I don't wanna spend much more than about $250 for the board alone, so I dunno where that leaves me. My parents agreed to pay for the bindings. Someone on another site suggested that I look at the '07 Hyperlite Murray, as that goes for a pretty decent price and he really liked his. Just looking for any suggestions or advice that you have. Thanks!

TheBiggmann,
07 closeouts are probably your best bet. If you look at boardersbestbuy.com some nice boards go for CHEAP there.

For that budget, you might have to just jump on any good brand (LF, HL, Ronix) you can find over 140cm.

Brent87LT1 is right. Depending on your parents' budget for bindings, you should be able to get just about any good board from the major manufacturers.

I got the LF Witness / LF Transit combo in September last year for about $350 on a 2007 closeout deal from http://www.salinasvalleymarine.com/proshop

The package seems good all around and seems like it will be something I won't really grow out of. Try to demo from a local shop if you can and try a few different styles if you aren't sure what you want. Try to see what a continuous rocker and a 3 stage rocker feels like. You might try a couple different sizes to see what you like or try some differences in the number and style of fins, etc. It's all going to boil down to how you want the board to track and how it pops and/ or lands off the wake.

Stick with the higher sizes given your weight...probably want to be in the 140-144 range. I would highly suggest a really good binding that has support but flex and seems really comfortable. I feel like the bindings I got gave me that and it makes the ride and control of the ride so much better.

Looks like a pretty good board for the money. If I was you, I would try to spend as much as you can afford...don't be cheap about it. You can end up where you are at now, at the beginning of next year, if you don't buy the most you can get for your money and get as advanced a set up as you can ride right now.

Ok so how does that stand among some other boards that you guys would recommend, along with the '07 murray I was looking at. Also, and I just use the murray and premier as an example, how big of a difference is there between a continuous and 3 stage?

Here's the text book definitions...

Rocker: The amount of curvature in a wakeboard. If a wakeboard has 2 inches of Rocker, then the tip and tail are 2 inches higher than the middle of the board. There are two types of rocker, continuous and three-stage. Continuous rocker is a smooth curve, while a board with three-stages of rocker, with a flat spot in the middle of the board.

Continuous Rocker: When the rocker of a board is continuous, meaning it has no flat spot in the center of the bottom of the board. This usually makes for a smoother pop and landing, but not as abrupt or vertical of a pop.

Three-Stage Rocker: The type of board shape where there is a flat spot in the center of the board while the tip and tail curve up. This makes for a more abrupt/vertical pop and usually a slightly harder landing.

Looking closely at the Murray, it looks like it is a bit of a hybrid between a continuous and 3-stage rocker. The Murray seems like a better board than the premier and more advanced.

So if I'm looking kinda for a little versatility, I'm better off with a continuous than a 3-stage? Too bad tho, that's a pretty good deal on the premier. Softer landings would be a good thing though, as I have a slight back issue, it tends to flare up if I jump a lot with skis, which I guess is a lot different but softer is probably a little better.
